tbourner
I've got some sci-fi books to be getting on with now, but the missus wants to know some good fantasy books she could read. At the moment she reads a lot of period drama, Henry Viii's wives stuff, and books by people like Torey Hayden about real stories of kids being abused and lovely things like that. Now she's asking about books with elves and goblins and dragons and magic and stuff. Not my kind of thing really but any suggestions would be good. DaveK
I used to read only this stuff for about 20 years. "Guy Gavriel Kay - the Fionavar Tapestry" was the best I read (obviously it's all personal taste though). I thought the characters were very complex and far more real than is usually the case. The Summer Tree is the first one - highly recommended. Actually - I have bin liners full of fantasy books in my loft. You're not having that trilogy - but you can have loads of others if you want them.
tbourner
Ooh thanks for the offer, can you post them? I want to buy her one or two for her birthday next month, and other than that we'll probably pop to the library so she can try a few and see if she likes them, but if any are going free/cheap we'll have them and stick them on the book shelf to read at some point!! Stevo
Could try going through the 'Anita Blake' series by Laurell K Hamilton. They're all to do with vampires, wereanimals etc. but in a much better and grown up way than Buffy or anything (just before the inevitable comparisons are posted). My missus enjoys them and once she picks one up to start, can barely put it down. They need to be read in the correct order though.
