Torches.

No its getting dark, i'm looking at buying a half decent LED torch.

I suppose with most things you get what you pay for.

Been looking here:

http://www.heinnie.com/lbvcaa792038/Flashlights/c-1-97/

And leaning towards either the following because they take ‘normal’ AA batteries:

Fenix L2D CE Cree Q5 http://www.heinnie.com/lbvcaa792038/Flashlights/Fenix/Fenix-L2D-CE-Cree-Q5-Premium-Flashlight/p-97-403-2519/

Fenix LD20

http://www.heinnie.com/lbvcaa792038/Flashlights/Fenix/Fenix-LD20/p-97-403-3302/

Might be tempted to go for a rechargeable CR123 one, and buy a charger, but it wont be used loads.

Do these keep the charge better than ni – mh?

Needed more for being handy than needed for work, so thinking the recharging will become a pain.

There are loads on Ebay quoting 200+ lumens, but dubious of how good they are.

Has anyone had any experiences/recommendations?

Looking to spend about £50.

Thanks

cant recommend these torches enough, used one in Iraq for 8 months and it was great, never let me down once, bearing in mind i was using it for search ops.

have you looked at the 3watt and 5 watt led conversions for mag's? Thats what i plan on doing for my D-cell and depending on how it works i might buy a C-cell mag and do the same as the D-cell is quite heavy.

I believe the MAg conversions arnt as bright from the reviews on the site listed, so i've left them alone.

Thanks everyone.

i'll check out the sites ;)

have a friend who got one of these for iraq aswell, he brought it home and we messed about with it for days. The beam pattern is very very good, no big black spot/swirl like on mags and its just as powerful as a mag but it fits in your pocket, plus you feel like mulder (scully?) when you use the tail cap button thing. Bit pricey though.

I was about to go for the Fenix LD20.

180 Lumens

2x AA's

2hrs on high power.

But…..

I had looked at the LED Lenser P7 (Blacks do them so went for a play)

http://www.ledlenserusa.com/product_info.php?modelNum=8407

Not bad at all.

Its focusable so is a bit more useful for me.

x4 AAA

167 Lumens

Run time?

But they now do the P14.

http://www.ledlenserusa.com/product_info.php?modelNum=8414

x4 AA

172 Lumens

Focusable.

A bit bigger but you’ve got to watch the video to appreciate it.

a LOT better IMO than the LD20 and TK10 which is raved about.

(Scroll down)

It doesn’t have the flare, but its very precise which suits me.

The guys got the same sort of enthusiasm for torches as we have about cars and his reviews have been very good/useful.

Also he offers a free solar torch and bike bracket :D

I’ve got several torches so I don’t mind it a big bigger (not that its large) than the current range of CR123 torches.

Although if you want the brightest:

appreciate the time he’s spent on it!!
