Tom
What is the best set up for the supra tt? Suspension Wheel size and widths Tyre width front and rear It could be because I'm running narrow tires, 235/45/17 and 245/45/17 but the car has understeered a couple of times in the dry and when putting the power down a little the back is sliding out, thing is though is that the tires arn't screeching it's just sliding out which I find pretty strange??? tbh I've only noticed this since going ttc with the back sliding out but I'd like to get a nice grippy supe! I've got Tein Ha's on it and it is quite low but just because it's low and firm it doesn't mean that it handles better than stock, am I able to sort the suspension my self? Nic
My cars getting the Tein HA's swapped for HKS Hypermax II at the moment, should be ready tomororw, so will let you know how they compare after I've tested them. I found the Tein's very stiff, which on anything other than a smooth road gave a very twitchy ride. Have you had the car up on a ramp since you bought it? The handling of mine got very nervous over the last few months, had it checked and all the suspension bushes were worn and needed replacing, I also had a knackered nearside front wheel bearing which was causing vibration when braking hard. My car is 94 and has done around 70K km, so it might be that similar aged cars are also running on worn bushes by now. I've got 18inch, 245 Front and 285 Rear tyres which is about as wide as you can go without rolling arches or fitting wide body kit.
Tom
My car is going up on the ramp tommorow, so I'll give that a check over, I look forward to hearing your comparison of the two. I might change the wheels for some lexus 18's or some nice volks later on, I could then get the right tire sizes which I think will make a difference. Zed
TDraper, what width are yor rear wheels ? The stock wheels are 9.5" and they run on 255 40 17 so yours are slightly off, not sure how drastic the effect of this would be. Also, the brand of tyres can make a massive difference. By the way, not trying to teach you to suck eggs or anything but what pressures are you running?
Marco
Make of tires is important as well!
Tom
tbh I dont know the widths of the wheels! are they printed on the wheel anywhere? and the pressure's are all good!
Zed
It's possible that the wheel widths are on the wheel, usually in raised lettering on the rim otherwise it's also possible that it's written on the back of the wheel which would obviously be a pain to check. You may also find the offset of the wheel written next to the widths. The stock rear wheel for example has the following written; 9 1/2 j 17 50 The 50 referring to the offset of 50mm, the offset could have a serious impact on handling as many aftermarket wheels are too far away from this. What brand are the tyres by the way ?
Tom
I think I have continental's! they seem ok, should get some F1's really. The other day I took my wheels off but the labels had all came off, well parts of it anyway! all I remember seeing is that the offest was 35 on the fronts and 38 on the back. I think I have 9.5" on the back, it does look like the tires are stretched on the wheel as if it's been set up for drifting!
Zed
If your offsets are 38 and 35 mm then this will undoubtedly have a detrimental effect on the handling. A lot of people in the past have commented on the transformation in handling charateristics after reverting to the stock 17" rims. I think if you stray more than about 5mm from the stock of 50 mm then it will start to make a difference. Your wheels are 15 mm and 12 mm out so this is bound to have an effect. Assuming your bushes and alignment etc are within limits then I bet stock wheels or at least close to stock offsets along with GY F1 GSD3 would make a very noticible improvent. Good luck. Tom
Yeah I totally agree, it's one of the reason's I hate the wheels, I think I might just give them away, if they were the right offset I probably would have got them refurbed! Weird though as today I REALLY got to push the car to the limits and it was superb!. I quite like the stock 17's, the chromed/polished ones on the US cars look good.
