mikeyb10supra
Hey Guys Thinking of dumping the CATS in my J-spec as I have heard this is a really good mod to perform....I currently have a Tanabe Racing Medallion and Blitx SUS induction.......what other mods will i need to carry out before I can De-CAT or is is just a case of pulling the old crap out and sticking the lovely new pipe in I have heard I need a restrictor ring.....do I need to consider any fuelling mods at all?? also how much power roughly do you think this will give me?? I thought maybe around 330bhp?? what do you reckon? Thanks Guys Mike
wkdtime
Just a slight change in topic? how loud is the tannabe exhaust you have? whats the note like?
mikeyb10supra
Very Very Deep, but not a horrible noisey exhaust, just sounds evil.........put it this way my fiance, said she can feel her windows in the house resonate when I pull up, thats how deep the note is get one if your thinking about it......I did to be a bit different and im not dissapointed one bit......a lot of the Big BHP american boys use them on there Supe's
Suprasteve
Mikey, I'm in the same boat as you, i have a 94 Jap TT with aftermarket back box but everything else stock. The responce i had from the guys is you simply replace both Cats with a decat pipe but should have a restrictor ring fitted (I believe it controls it at 1.2 bar max). If you didn't fit it you could over boost which will result in the engining cutting out in order to protect the turbos. I think if you replace just the one Cat it should be ok re over boosting and MOT's. - speak to Chris Wilson for more info. I've been told you may get an up to an extra 30 bhp and the Turbos should spin up a lot quicker. Just out of interest have you rolling roaded your car ? When i bought mine about a year ago i did and it came out at 323 bhp. According to many websites the Jap spec is 270 bhp and UK 326 bhp !?! Pretty sure mine has no mods. CAN ANYONE CLEAR THIS UP ONCE AND FOR ALL WHAT IS THE STOCK BHP FOR JAP SUPRAS ???
Ian C
From what I gather, it's between 280 and 320Bhp It seems like the quoted power is 280bhp due to that gentlemans' agreement amongst japanese car manufacturers. However the actual power turns out to be higher, and a lot of people are getting nearer the UK spec quoted figure. -Ian

CAN ANYONE CLEAR THIS UP ONCE AND FOR ALL WHAT IS THE STOCK BHP FOR JAP SUPRAS ??? I have'nt had mine Dyno'ed or RR etc yet but I imagined mine to be a shade over 300 with the SUS induction and racing exhaust fitted.......If your getting that kind of a power reading from yours thats pretty impressive considering they are suppose to be 280 out the box sounds good to me, would be v.happy with that sort of output from mine.......might try to get mine done out of interest so see what the actual output is, as I would be interested to know are you going to fit de-cats in the future??? Suprasteve
I was in the process of doing so. I won myself a 3" full decat on Ebay, took it to an exhaust fitter but he said the bolts on the car were "threaded" and couldn't get the nuts off without snapping them. Then went on to say this will be expensive (£250+) as he'd have to take the turbos out etc in order to drill them out and re thread etc... I asked the guys on the forum and got conflicting answers, some said that its a load of crap and its a peice of cake drilling them out and replacing them with normal bolts others agreed with the mechanic. I took it to 4 other places, 2 wouldn't touch it, the other 2 agreed with the 1st guy. - rather than taking a chance i'm saving up the funds and will take it to Chris Wilson and get him to deal with it all (inc. restrictor ring). just waiting for him to get back to me with a price...hint...hint... Going back to the BHP issue, just done a search on past posts, also what Ian C just said it looks as if the Japs stated a max 280 bhp on all their cars not just supras, so looks as if yours should come out the same as mine. - happy days ! How are you finding the handling in this weather ?
mikeyb10supra
Whooo hooo sounds good to me........ I think if they are all saying the same thing then I would tend to agree.......take it to chris and let him take a look.........I have heard he is one of the best in the business he will no doubt get it sorted for you. dont take any chances in this weather with the handelling.......supra's bite back hard as I found out twice when I first got the car.......I just run with caution it the wet.......decking it in this weather is just asking for trouble IMO especially with crappy Toyota Traction Control, I just run it on turbo 1 only I dont even let the second turbo come online at all.......cant stand the thought of having a ding in it.........how about you......I think autos are worse in the wet than manuals?? roll on the dry summer days
Suprasteve
Tell me about it! in the wet i'm spinning in 4th even with new tyres. Everyone says Racelogic is the answer to everything and about £600 fitted. I'd love to have the funds to do these things but the misses would have a fit! - i have to do it gradually and discretely I'm often at Lakeside so if you see a silver supra give me a wave. dude
The bolts your fitter says are stripped are on a part of the turbo system that can be removed in about 10-20 mins and the offending snapped items replaced on the bench , ive now run out of good ones and have several that have snapped off which i must get replaced soon to keep for when this happens on custmer cars . Suprasteve
sure that'll be good. Do you know of any others in this area with Supras ? I'm probably going Pods within the next month or 2. My mate has got a 750bhp R34 skyline and hoping for early 11's or better - awsome car. My other mates have got Evo 6, R32 skyline and an old porsche so a got range of powerful cars going. I'll let you know when we've decided to go. Taken yours down Santa Pods yet? I did it in my old BMW E36 325 and got 16.1 @ 84mph - more scared than when i went skydiving ! I'm hoping to beat 14.0@ 104 mph (my mate done in his M3 Evo before he got his Evo 6, i always said mine was quicker !) I do occasionally flash the odd sup but feel a bit of a wally if they don't do it back so normally wait till they do it first.

Once the cats out the way the bit you have broken comes off with 3 bolts and the o2 sensor removed , the broken studs will have to be removed and poss the holes retapped for new threads , you can get the studs from any exhaust centre Dude
