External hard drives

I would advise you get one that has an external power supply rather than relying on USB power.

Otherwise you will need 2 free USB2 ports and a decent PC PSU.

I have a Seagate FreeAgent Go that had to be replaced under warranty after just 1 week. :(

Are you going to use it as a backup or the only source of your files, if so I would buy two or one that has two drives in it.

Loosing all your data is not fun.

Unless its data you dont car about.

I am looking to store a load of music files and then use the drive as the source to play through a laptop for the bar. Does that make sense?

Yes. :D

Go for the larger drives. :)

Much better reviews for the Seagate due to it's speed. I've used Iomega before and found it slow. It put me off the brand.

Seagate, Maxtor and Western Digital always make my list.

Hmmm, well I actually wanted one with the USB power supply. I used to use my external HD with my laptop so felt that I'd rather not have the extra PITA of carrying a power adapter.

I now use the same hard drive with my new PC and in all honesty again prefer it with the USB power supply. I only have 4 plug scokets for my PC, TV, Sky etc and have no spare, I do have plenty spare USB sockets though...
