wkdtime
I topped up my car with a litre and half of oil on sunday, was having fun alll weekend and checked the oil constantly, had fun yesterday was pushing the car to its limits! (sweet fun) now i just checked oil and its gone from half way on the dip to literally none at all on the dip stick, I dont get any blue smoke what so ever, car drives and boosts fine. what could it be, the car is parked up at the moment, what are the checks that i should carry out? im thinkin the worst here! is the engine dead!# cheers guys! Whitesupraboy2
if your loosing that amount of oil, i would think you would see some sort of oil in the engine bay over something or dripping off somewhere. is there any trace of oil over any parts of the engine, or patchs on the road where you park it over night? wkdtime
just to add to my post, the oil has gone down from half way to bare minimum in a metter of 50 miles (mostly at wot) it cant be the engine or stem seals can it or even turbo seals? surely i would see some blue smoke atleast! what are the obvious checks that i should carry out? Nic
Just checked out side in the drive way, there are a few patches of oil around 8cm in diameter. any suggestions guys? Check for oil around the front crank seal, they are prone to leaking.
wkdtime
where is the front crank seal? if it is that, is it an expensive job to get sorted. p.s. The pipe leading to the intercooler, from the engine end was pretty loose, there was alot of dirt and oil build up around it, just tightened that. Digsy
where is the front crank seal? if it is that, is it an expensive job to get sorted. Get under the car, drop the undertray and check around the rear of the crank pulley / front of the oil pan for oil. If you are lucky (doesn't sound like you are so far ) and you have a timing belt change coming up, then get the front crank seal replaced at the same time, as the engine will be stripped down far enough for it to be a bugger-all labour job. The crank seal costs about £8 I think. If it is done as a stand alone job then expect a big bill - probably nearly £100 - mostly all labour. wkdtime
ok guys, could it be anything else besides the crank seals, i dont get any start up smoke or smoke on idle or at WOT, and car drives and boosts fine, so im sure that rules out the turbo, pistons, valve selas. (i.e oil not burning, but leaking), what else should i check? crank selas i will check asap, anyother possible causes?
TLicense
You best bet to trying to diagnose this without taking it to someone, is to get the undertray off, clean everything up with some break cleaner/degreaser out some more oil in and go for a blast. Once your done have another inspection and see if there are any tell tail signs of oil spray/leakage. You may strike gold when you first go under there and be able to spot what's leaking. The front main seal is a known weak point, but it could be something as daft as the oil filter not tight. Get under there and have a look!
MichaelG
Mate judging by the amount of problems you have had with this since you bought it i would be taking it back to the garage i bought it from........seriously. Michael

Hmm, once I had my oil changed by a garage (Im not sure if youve had the same done or not recently) and lost quite a bit of oil over a few days. Also developed a patch of oil on the path following bringing it home. I popped under the car one day after work and found that the oil sump nut was "finger tight" - as in I could screw and unscrew it with my finger (!) - there was a small "line" of oil draining downwards past the not fully screwed nut and dripping onto the floor. Popped a socket on and tightened it up and all has been well since. Hope it isnt serious whatever it is mate.
wkdtime
appreciate all the help guys, but knowing my luck its probably the crank seals, knowing my luck even more it will propably been the rear ones, i.e engine out!
