Marco
Spark plugs?
Zed
Mine has done this a few times in the past 2 years, don't know if it's exactly the same as yours but I reset the ecu by pulling out the EFI fuse for 30 seconds, worked wonders and acceleration seemed even better than before ! Must be worth a try, it'll only cost you 30 seconds !!
Dragonball
If you feel it the top of acceleration - then more than likely some nice new spark plugs required If you have decatted etc then almost definately - so not to worry at this stage! supratoy
i just got the plugs changed at ava bout 1000miles ago.Ididnt think that the one's i was recommended by ava where good enough( NGK) I had apex i 7's before and had no problems with them. I called ava and they think i should put it onto the rolling road to get it checked out. but if use think that its defin the plugs then should i just get them changed and not bother with the rolling road? appreciate the help and anymore will be greatly appreciated
Aerotop Dave
I researched spark plugs a while back and this is what I found: Basic spark plug advice: NGK BKR6EP-11 (2978) - stock, Toyota fit these at the factory NGK BKR7E (6097) - recommended for BPU, but need replacing yearly at least (if you changed them at every service you'd be about right). NGK BCPR7ES (3330). These are the next one down (colder), but have been known to cause slight stumbling at idle. Equally there's a lot of people who run them just fine. Denso Iridium IK20 - stock replacement Denso Iridium IK22 - Good for 400 to 600bhp Denso Iridium IK24 - 600hp+ The Denso's last longer than the NGKs but cost 5 or 6 times more (and they don't last 5 or 6 times longer!). Fitting IK22s to a BPU Supra would be an expensive luxury over the 6097s or 3330s. Generally if you have a stock Supra go with 2978, if you're BPU go with 6097, if you're more than BPU then start looking at the Denso ones. tbourner
I've got 3330's and they're brilliant. I need to change them in about 2000 kms though.
Grazer
AVA will not have used cold enough plugs. They changed mine for NGKs but they weren't BKR7Es. I fitted BKR7Es along with a Walbro fuel pump and it totally sorted my misfiring. Get yourself a set (they're fairly cheap) and you can give me a shout if you want a hand fitting them
tDR
BCPR7ES and BKR7E are both the same heat grade and will both work well in a BPU Supra, provided they are gapped correctly at between 0.8mm and 0.9mm. The difference between them is BCPR7ES are copper core with a normal flat type electrode and the BKR7E are normal core (not copper) but with a V groove electrode. Iridium plugs are a waste of money IMO and I would stick to either of the above NGK's for BPU. You could also run BCPR8ES and BKR8E without any problems at BPU level and also at small single level IMO - they are one grade colder again (2 grades colder than stock). A set of 6 of either model of NGK's should cost under a tenner. You can buy online from http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk HTH, Brian.

tDR
Not during cold winters though? In my experience of other turbocharged cars running more than 2 grades colder than stock, yes

Jake
anyways the problem has stopped for some strange reason. Iam confused Maybe because the the weather is a bit warmer now and so you're not making as much boost as before?

Jake
How? Dave, I get NGK BCPR7ES from the local motor factors (Try Partco in the phonebook if you don't know any others local to you) They're just over £10 for the six. £10.90, something like that. supratoy
yeah i think it is because the weather is i lil hotter now. but in saying that it was only hitting 1.2 so if i was to de-cat the remaining cat pipe ( with restrictor ring )it would start to do what it did then?( if you get what i mean)
Getrag
I forget, but where do you read your boost from? If its a guage, sometimes they can be innacurate.
