Pics really don't do these justice. Both b'have's and Ken's own look great in the flesh, so to speak.

Ken used XP pro as the OS and downloaded a couple of gps aps for the units. Bit more to it than that I should think. Results are terrific.

We had a good laugh at imagining b'have having his car mapped remotely by RyanG. :D Conclusion was the screen wouldn't refresh fast enough at a couple hundred leps. :innocent: so probably safer if Ryan was present. :D

:rlol:

Charlie mentioned that to me last night. Can just imagine telling him to lift off but about 15 seconds too late :D

Looks nice, what do you use for the menu or is it something you've created?

Both mine and Charlie's are running XP Pro, but with different front end software.

Charlie's using RoadRunner, modded a bit to run Sygic Drive nav software. RR is free but takes a bit of learning to make it do anything other than look pretty.

I'm using Centrafuse, with its built-in Destinator nav software. It's good, but costs £125 for the full version. :(

And I've got Sygic Drive too because it's great for speed camera detection. :)

Mentioned to Ken last week, that it would be nice to have a touch screen lap timer on the gps speedo. Low and behold, Ken (and mate) wrote some software and installed today. (Many thanks again Ken)

Working on the onboard cameras now :)

Thats pretty cool, how light is 'very light';)

I figure I need to put some weight in the back anyhow:innocent:

So what was the cost overall - excluding the programmers time and installation?

I would say it weighs similar to a laptop and very compact (fitted to the rear of the back seat) All the hardware including cables/dongles etc was around £600.

I agree Paul.

FreeICE is great if you don't want anymore than the facilities it already gives.

Anyone who knows Charlie knows that he's not always happy without being able to tweak things though. ;)

RR gives him things like the speedo, timer etc and can be expanded to add his camera software etc in the future.

A better source for CarPC stuff is http://www.mp3car.com. The only drawback with that site is that it's very "American" (a bit like SF I suppose). But there's plenty of us Brits there keeping the place sane and sensible. ;)

BB,

Hardware cost was about the £600 mark, but that's without the extra cable he needed to get the Sony headunit to recognise the audio in from the PC.

And 'very light' is about the same as a laptop weighs.

Edit - I see Charlie beat me to it though. :)

Very nice.

Any pics of the Destinator SatNav on screen?

Charlie's using Sygic Drive Jake, I'm using Destinator.

EDIT.

Pic1 - Sygic embedded in Roadrunner.

Pic2 - Destinator 6 in Centrafuse.

(They can both run in either 3D or 2D mode.)
