The Raven
Ok, running vista basic, I have done a total reformat and install. The Pc runs fine then at random times the screen freezes. 1. two dotted black lines show at the bottom of the page 2. a fuzzy bar shows at the top (like a non tuned tv fuzz) 3. tiny little flicky lights show on screen. This has been happening for 4 days now the only way to get out of it is to power off. The times are always different and it does not seem to matter what i am doing. Times of it doing it range from 2 minutes to an hour.
MrRalphMan
Sounds like the box is overheating. If it's a old box try blowing the dust out dude.
The Raven
I should add its a lap top. The air intake is on the bottom? and its chucking loads of hot air out of its side vent.
The Raven
Taken bottom of the case off, the fan was clear however and this may sound dumb. The panel i removed to gain access to the fan has 12 vents on the bottom of it but they are all covered with a silver backed black plastic. This isnt where its supposed to draw air in from is it? If it is then its air tight and nothing is getting in there.
Scott
That sounds a bit iffy buddy. Could you post any pics of what your talking about? Most lappys have a few impeller type fans that pull the air in through the bottom and push it out through heatsink fins and then out the back. If there is plastic in front of the heatsinks, between the fan and the heatsink or the heatsink and outside of the lappy, then there is something wrong. Is the black plastic below where the fans are? Sounds very strange.
The Raven
The air is coming out just fine no block between where the fan is and the outside of the laptop. I will take pics inbetween crashes of the bit im talking about i might be totaly wrong but it seems strange to me.
The Raven
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/410/pc001zu5.th.jpg Thats it then the fan is over by the power lead. Like is said those vents dont go anywhere they are sealed with silver backed black plastic
DamanC
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/410/pc001zu5.th.jpg Thats it then the fan is over by the power lead. Like is said those vents dont go anywhere they are sealed with silver backed black plastic Thats normal for a fujitsu fella. How old is it? ivan
I suspect it's like that to force the airpath in over another hot component instead of straight into the fan.
The Raven
Bugger 6 months old its truly awful loads of the screws have simply fallen out of the case!!! Been running now for 4 hours without a problem
DamanC
I would rule out the dust by giving it a clean. Get some compressed air and squirt it into all available vents etc
AlexJames
Maybe im being dense but it sounds like a graphics card problem to me?
