Hello

After some advice :) I want to build an Aquarium i.e. i was going to build the base and get a tank + full set up (filters, monitors etc) Just wondering where is the best place to get this stuff from? I was going to have tropical fish and ideally i would won't a 5ftx3ft tank about :D

Any advice would be great :)

Hi Mate - lots of things to consider, the main thing to consider is what kind of tropical fish you will keep - this has an impact on the size of tank and equipment needed. For example some tropical fish grow really big so you will need a big tank, some like rocks and plants so you should build these into the tank

Have a look here:

Pay particular attention to 'new tank set ups' as its not as easy as putting it all together and bunging some fish in, you have to 'mature' the tank medium, check ph etc and ensure the water is correct, make sure you introduce fish SLOWLY and add hardy varieties first

and once you've done all that, do what I did.... build a 4000 litre pond in the garden, 7 foot deep, and put 20 6 inch koi in there. 10 years later and they now come in at 18 - 30 inches and look spectacular :eyebrows:

hi mate - how do the koi fair up to the winter? Do you do anything 'special' to keep them alive?
