Homer Posted May 14, 2008 Share Posted May 14, 2008 As with everything on the rear suspension, the lower balljoint was being a "bit stuborn". It was too wide for my splitter to get on it so tried the heating it and then used a hammer.. no joy, so being a patient bloke, out came Mr Sledge Hammer... Anyway, the balljoint came out after a few hits, but now I cannot get the nut off because the balljoint is rotating with the nut. Have I broken it? 4packet Posted May 14, 2008 Share Posted May 14, 2008 Use a bar to lever the joint back together. This will provide enough purchase to remove the nut without the ball joint rotating. Think that's the problem you are describing anyway..... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just jack it back up into the joint until it gets tight again and unscrew the nut almost off, watch you don`t hit the threads as well. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Jimmer Posted May 14, 2008 Share Posted May 14, 2008 No its ok, just get some long nose mole grips in there to grip the ball joint to stop it rotating, or push and hold it back in the socket, this might grip it enough so you can unscrew it. However if you missed with the hammer and damaged the threads you will need a thread file to restore them otherwise you will never unscrew it. I didn't realise that was how they worked I did as 4packet said, pushed the ball joint back into place and it came straight off.
