hoff
My brakes (pads and disks) will need changing soon as they are getting a little spongy. However, occasionally the peddle feels very stiff when braking, at all speeds. What could be causing it? Would it be the lines are on their way out too, coroding from the inside and causing a slight air block or something? Thanks:) Adam
Chris Wilson
Sounds like you are losing servo assistance occasionally. Common cause is someone fitting a totally unsuitable, but brightly coloured vac hose to the servo, that collapses under vacuum when warm.

hoff
Thanks chris:) I'll have a look when I get a chance then and see. Ive not fitted anything myself but a previous owner may have.
Chris Wilson
It's very dangerous, the correct hose should have a steel wire spiral inside the braids to hold vacuum, it's because the hose is quite large in diameter, so the vac is pulling on a large surface area. NEVER change servo hoses unless you KNOW the replacement is totally compatible with the application.
hoff
Right, thanks again Chris:). Would Toyota/Steve Manerly be best to get hold of one then?
Chris Wilson
Yep, just get the OE pipe from Toyota, assuming this *IS* the problem, I was just making an educated guess at a possibility.
