Chris and Alana
Hi guy's, I was just wondering if removing the black stuff attatched to the under side of the bonnet would be fine to do? I guess it's there for sound deadening but mine has seen better days
miko_supra
looks horrible imo. I took it off although in the middle theres a 2ft square of unpainted section thats just in beigey primer. Sounds good too
Pabs
I can only think of 2 reasons why it is there in the first place: 1) Noise reduction 2) Perhaps it helps to start the car and to help get the engine to operating temperature quicker? CarlT67
I think it is mainly for insulating the bonnet to keep the engine warmer for longer, so the car still has some heat when you start it.
b_have
It also has plastic fixings that are designed to release (melt) in the event of fire, thus creating a fire blanket. (maybe a load of bollox, but remember reading that somewhere )

Chris and Alana
Thanks for the replies guy's I take it the heat from the engine wont have an effect on the paint on the bonnet over time if removed then? Does it also make a considerable difference to the amount of noise you can hear from the engine when removed? It's a good idea about the fire blanket but the plastic push tag things that keep it on have caused the horrible yellow material to show around some of them, apart from that it's just a little faded. So I can either remove it and have no fire protection and an unpainted section of bonnet (why do they do that anyway, why not just paint the whole thing ) or try a littlt black paint on the horrible exposed yellow stuff to try tidy it up mmmmm, decisions. . . . I haven't noticed any paint issues on the bonnet and its been off for over a year
ShamelessTT
Paints fine on mine too, if you touch the bonnet when the engines been running its hardly warm. Theres a good gap between it.
