Gaz6002
Mezzo Restaurant is the way forward for contemporary good eating in London IMO. All of the Conran places are pretty good in fact.
Multics
Try the brasserie in OXO tower or Vertigo in tower 42 (old Natwest tower). Good food and excellent view over London. Bit expensive though. If you like steaks you can't go wrong with Gaucho, there's many of them in the city and got good reviews.
Sparky
Are these places (Gaucho, Mezzo and Conran) all chain restaurants? Im after your normal sort of food but a decent location and atmosphere! Cheers So far
Gaz6002
Mezzo isn't a chain, but it is owned by a famous chap called Jasper Conran. It serves quite simple food but extremely well. They also have some pretty cool unique features. From what you describe I think it would be perfect to impress a young lady
tooquicktostop
Wow the choice is endless, Location wise I would go for Pont de La Tour right on Tower Bridge with good food and excellent views, there are many restaurants on this part of the embankment and range from classy pizza to fine dining, also some very cool bars look for Shad Thames on the map. If you want high class food then Nobu is very good with a real restaurant to be seen in feel, it is in the metropolitan hotel on Park Lane, not cheap though, The Ivy has the same to be seen in feel The Bleedin Hart Pub is one of Londons best Gastro pubs with a great reputation If you really want a one off experience go to Tom Aikins restaurant or perhaps the Capital Hotel and Eric Chavot's restaurant, very expensive but very very good MOMO is a very intersting night out just off Piccadilly, you walk into this Moroccan restaurant and it has the most amazing decor which transforms you to old world Morroco, very cool The web site Top Table has some great advise and deals and is worth a look

Sometimes it's nice to just walk around until you find somewhere you fancy, taking in 7 or 8 bars on the way.
tooquicktostop
IMAX is near Waterloo on the Southbank so not to far from Shad Thames for the Pont De La Tour and dozens of other restaurants and bars that look over the River/ Tower of London etc
