Well its the first time in over 2 years that the supra has let me down :(

Was going to go shopping so I jumped into the car turned the key. It fired up as usual, but after about 20 seconds it just died on me!

Tried turning the key again and it just turns over.

So, where should I start looking? :search:

Nah it won't be that, if the immobiliser is activated the engine doesn't even turn over.

I have 2 immobilisers in my alarm. One hits the fuel pump and one hits the ignition.

Not sure if its the same relay or not but i had the same issue with my MR2. Was the EFI relay IIRC.

battery connections? mined just died once i was driving and turned out to be battery connections.

Thats possible as I've had the battery off the other day. I'll go clean them up a bit

Just one immobiliser here. Toad ai606 and I can hear the fuel pump whining as usual

Cold weather? Flooded engine? Loose starter motor? Could be anything.

Never had a problem in the cold before. Think I'll go over all the plugs (starter motor plug etc) with a squirt of WD40

Cheers all :)

When you start it, does it idle normally, then begin to chug, then struggle and die? Or does it idle nicely then suddenly cut out?

What happens if you rev it while it's running?

It idled as it would normally when its cold, then after 20 seconds or so it just cut out like I'd turned it off. No chugging or 'hunting'

It seems to be fine now, it just happened the once yesterday. Just thought it was strange how it would turn over but not fire up after it cut out

Had a weird one with mine other day and wondered if it's the battery.

Went to shops and as I got out I wondered why the car was taking some long to count down (normal is 30 sec).

When I got back in I realised my Clock had reset and turbo counter had reset to 1 minute. All pointing to a Battery disconnection yet all the wires are tight??

*Sorry for Hijack*

well, finally solved this one!

It happened again, but this time I'd just put some petrol in and was stuck on the forecourt :D

Anyway, turned the key and it just turned over. I couldn't hear the fuel pump whinning as I usually can so thought I'd check that I was actually getting some power to it with a multimeter.

Power was at the plug that goes into the top of the fuel pump (under the spare wheel)

So I thought I'd dig a little deeper and take the fuel pump out. The fuel pump is made by a company called TRE and flows the same rate as a walbro. I installed it just over a year ago.

I took it out and to my amazement I saw the actual plastic plug that goes into the top of the pump had sort of melted and the wires hanging off! (WTF!)

The only conclusion I can come to is that this pump isn't suitable for in tank use as it seems to be the petrol thats caused it to get like this? Anyway, I pulled the plug off, chopped the wires and fitted 2 insulated spade connectors to put on the terminals just to get me home.

Are the walbro pumps a similar design? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Get a walbro Luke. They are know to work well.

What would have happened if the two connects shorted and spaked? KABOOM??

This one works well, well it did for a year lol. If the walbro has a plastic plug too surely the petrol will melt it too?

I doubt it would have gone kaboom, its petrol vapours that ignite, not something that is actually submerged in petrol? could be wrong though :)

Glad you got it sorted.

Your right regarding the vapours...but if the right air/vapour mixture was reached in your gas tank (if it was running low) I would imagine nasty potential

:Pling::bang::sos:

I'm going to buy and fit a walbro. But I'm going to be paranoid about this forever now. I'll probably have to take the damn thing out every couple of month just to check its still ok :(

hehe thanks Jon, I'm not too bad with a spanner when I'm motivated. It was quite embarrasing having to push the supe away from the petrol pump into the corner of the forecourt lol. Also forgot to mention while I was in the middle of doing all this a black supra pulled in, filled up and drove back out.... WHERE WAS MY HELP!? I hope they're not a member on here because thats really bad club spirit :D blah blah blah

It was the Shell station on Dodworth Rd, Barnsley btw
