Bank holiday weekend - where to go - advice please

Right. I am sick of london now so decided to go away on a mini road trip somewhere in the uk (bit late I know but I didnt want to get hit by traffic on Thurs/Fri).

Into big nights out and waking up late to go shopping in a busy bustling shopping centre. Any ideas whilst I pack my bags? I will be leaving in a couple of hours.

Ideally I'd like to end up in Bath/Bristol on Monday so preferably south west would be good.

any ideas would be appreciated?

I hear Swindon/Southampton/Oxford can be good

Oxford's a nice city. I don't really know it very well as I'm usually in the bars and not relaxing/sightseeing!

If you're thinking of the south coast, I'd personally head more in the Bournemouth/Poole or Salisbury directions than Southampton. Salisbury is a quaint little city that's very picturesque. Perfect for a weekend getaway I'd say. Bournemouth/Poole obviously good choices if you're hoping to get your feet wet with some watersports.

Portsmouth and Southampton have fairly good shopping at Gun Wharf Quays and West Quay respectively - not sure if you're taking an other half ;)

If you're passing through the area, might as well stop off at Stone Henge too. I've lived here for 7 years and I've only been there when friends from up north come to visit and want to see the sights!

I think I am going to do Swindon, mainly due to a lot of hotels being sold out (me leaving things last minute), but you guys have definitely give me some food for thought for my next uk get away.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes Bath is great, went to uni there and lived there a year or so thereafter. Great town for night life indeed.
