Guest f3nr15
Hi all, I am contemplating buying these for my VVT-i Supra: http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=5258 Basically, they are stock jap-spec turbos that have had the compressor housings machined out to fit larger V2 size steel wheels, however retain the stock ceramic exhaust turbines and housings. Bit of a dilemma really; With this set-up, I am HOPING that by retaining the stock exhaust wheels, the turbos will still retain a reasonably quick spool time whilst flowing larger amounts of air due to the larger steel compressor wheels. However, the idea behind hybridisation is usually to fit larger STEEL wheels to handle higher boost pressures. So presumably these are still limited to 1.2 bar, and will prob be prone to fracture at higher boost pressures than this, the same as a stock set-up. Has anyone had any experience with a similar set-up over there in the UK? Or any opinons on what I might expect from these? Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated! Dragonball
I would not personally do it - the fragility of the ceramics will always be the achilles heel of the turbo system Up to you of course - but you also have no idea to the quality of manufacture / expected longevity / warranty Turbos may also not travel well / packaging etc Get them with steel or not at all IMHO
Alex
You have CT-12's not CT-20's so I'm guessing they won't fit? In that thread he has not confirmed they will fit - I'd waid for him to put it in writing...and even then I don't think I'd believe it.
uksupra
i had my turbos stripped out and uprated with metal blades... do not know exact specs but now pushes 16psi easy..... spool is quick as well...
heckler
i had my turbos stripped out and uprated with metal blades... do not know exact specs but now pushes 16psi easy..... spool is quick as well... I Have hybrids from Miami GT... push 1.5 bar (er.. 22 psi?) no probs. I managed to get my JDM turbos to hit 1.7 bar - 3 months later, they expired
Guest f3nr15
You have CT-12's not CT-20's so I'm guessing they won't fit? See here, now this is where it gets confusing. Confusing because of this: http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=3564 and this: http://www.turbosupras.com/pages/technical/CT20%20turbochargers.htm Any comments here? Are they really the SAME turbos or not???
