Big Ads
Hi Guys, I'm currently looking to buy a new laptop. I'm just not too clued up on processor jargon. I have seen two similar laptops one with: AMD Turion64 X2 TL58 And another with: Intel core Duo2 T5270 (1.4GHz) The AMD laptop is a better spec, but does anyone know which is the better processor? Scott
Core2duo's are the best at the moment but 1.4 is a bit low. You want around 1.8 with the duo's to have a good laptop. Power consumption is low as is the heat generated. Scott =op
Big Ads
Cheers Scott, i'll have a look for a higher spec Core Duo2, Are the AMD's just not worth it?
Daston
AMD used to be awesome but went down hill big time when they purchased ATI. I went with an intel chip after having AMD's for 7 years and dont regret it
Scott
Pentium had it with the P3, the P4 was naff and the AMD's stormed ahead. They stayed ahead right up until the Core2Duo came out IMO. The AMD's are great if you are on a budget. They are really really good processors but the core2duo's are just better. Their power consumption is superb and they are very very cool processors, perfect for a lappy. Scott =op
Scott
Oh, if your going for a lappy with vista make sure its got at LEAST 1GB of ram. I always recommend 2gb but when moneys tight and all that Don't worry about the HDD size, that can be upgraded anytime, if you can get a lappy with dedicated graphics then all the better but thats usually costly. Big Ads
Thanks for the info, the AMD laptop i have seen has: AMD Turion TL58 2GB RAM 120 HDD 15.4" Screen £350 The other is: Intel core Duo2 T5470 (1.6GHz) 1GB 80 HDD 15.4" Screen £380 Both from Dell, is the Core2Duo that much better to justify lack of memory and HDD AND more price? Sparky
Intel are superior and i have an AMD cpu purely because of budget. Cpus are pretty rebust, but intel will always be the better cpu although it depends on your budget tbh. My AM2 5000 athlon cpu is a year old and still works brilliantly but deep down i know that Intel with its higher cache rate will always beat it
