GetawayDriver
What is the general consensus on maximum safe boost? My car is a UK spec, stock fuel system and injectors, still has one cat in place.
TLicense
In my J-spec things will certainly start to get edgy at 1.2 bar, so I would say for a UK spec I wouldn't really want to push them much past 1.4 tops. However The problem you'll have is the fact that after about 1.2 bar the turbo's aren't all too efficient.
GetawayDriver
i am yet to work out how to use the boost controller fully. i've set it up as per mr.brannigans settings. I'm currently using the speed map but it only ever seems to hit 0.98 above 60mph. Could having one cat in place be holding boost levels down? Also what does the gain % do? i've changed it a bit but felt little difference. At the minute the car feels less driveable, lots of lag and a savage realease of power when on boost. As my main aim is drifting, it's only a matter of time before i end up in a hedge.
michael
As TL says there isn't much point going beyond 1.2 bar on standard turbos as all it does is generate heat with no power gain, especially with the standard IC.
The Hornet
The gain alters the spool time.
GetawayDriver
so why would you ever want to increase the spool time? so if i turn the gain to 0 there will be no spooltime and so no lag?
Ian C
It's more like, as I understand it, how late it waits until it starts opening the wastegate. The longer it waits the faster boost pressure reaches it's target, but the later you open the wastegate the more chance you have of boost spikes caused by the wastegate not opening quickly enough. -Ian
GetawayDriver
so in effect this controls how progrssivley power is delivered... i see. one more question about boost warning and limiter - i have my boost warning set at 1.21, am i right in thinking if the limiter is set to 0 then it is a hard limitter and will cut all boost if the preset level is breached, 100 will not cut boost at all. I had it set to 0 and on a couple of runs, i upped the boost for CH4 to make it over boost purposely to test the effect of the limiter. when the limiter cut in the car lost power violently and the engine light and red waring triangle light came on. is this normal? is this fuel cut? i have an FCD fitted. i changed this to 50 and it stopped doing it. Guest Terry S
The question isnt really the injectors, but the compression ratio of the engine and the turbos. You have pleanty of injector though.
JohnK
I found JB's settings not to work too well at all on my UK spec, I got about 1.5 bar the first time i floored it - I lifted off as soon as the defi's warned me (1.2) but the peak hold showed a spike of 1.5. I now have it set up almost right at 1.21 bar (1.25 on defi) if you would like to know my settings PM me to remind me to get off my lazy ass and look. Sharpie
I found JB's settings not to work too well at all on my UK spec, JB's settings work just fine for me and I get the same results as JB from these settings
Geezabloke
On my UK i have the gain set between 20 and 25% with the boost set around 63 on cold days and upto 73 on warm days, this gives between 1.2 bar and 1.3 bar boost dependent on weather conditions? Hope this helps, but is defo best to play and find the optimum settings for you car. Dave
