Barney
Extra load tyres, are they suitable for a Supra?
Chris Wilson
You mean like van and truck tyres, with a high weight load capacity? Not sure what you mean.
Barney
Well, they come in sport sizes ie: 235/40ZR18 so I'm guessing they are for big heavy Audi/BMW saloons etc, but I'm curious if the "extra load" part would exclude or include a Supra. Chris Wilson
Need more info, what part of the spec is indicating extra load? Usually it's extra plies in the carcass.
Barney
What model tire are you looking at? I'm not looking at anything in particular, I was just doing some homework as I need some new fronts soon and these "extra load" tyres kept popping up. Having never heard of them before other than for vans etc I started wondering the why's and where-for's of them and if they where ok to use on a Supra, after all it is a heavy car and also the sizes these heavy load tyres seem to be available in suggest sports/gt car usage. TrickTT
Our Galaxy uses them, they have stiffer sidewalls to cope with the weight. I would think the very wide versions are for thinks like the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. Cant think of a good reason to put them on a Supra though. TrickTT
The supra isn't a heavy car, its 200kg lighter than a DB9.
Chris Wilson
OK, I know what you are looking at now, you certainly don't want anything like those on a sports car.
