missfire and turbos

Hello all.

 

Was just wondering, my car has got a missfire, but I have also notice that the boost pressure is going up and down too. Would these two things be connect? (i.e would a missfire cause the boost to rise and trop?):search:

Any help welcome.

Thanks for that;). I was starting to worry that I had a turbo problem too. I have order new spark plugs they should be here tomorrow.

Are the coil pack connectors a common fault on the supras? How much would that set me back? :(

The missfire only starts when the car is boosting. Could that still be the cause?

It is a J-spec and also has a HKS stand alone ECU if that makes any difference.

the coilpack connectors are a common thing on supra's:( but Paul whiffin sorted some for me about £36 i think it was posted, very good service (drop him a pm i am sure he wont mind)

 

what modifications does your supe have and whats the max boost you see?

 

my misfire came on bang on .6 bar every time in say 3rd gear and up, changed the connectors and it seemed to stop misfiring but in the cold when it runs almost 1 bar boost it would miss still so i changed the plugs, and plan to go full bpu soon any way running about 1 bar so i planned ahead:D

 

EDIT: HKS ecu ...i would change coilpack connectors first if it still misses try the plugs but if it misses still maybe the ecu is doing something the engine doesnt like, dont know anything about the HKS ecu and i would recommend a rolling road to check every thing is ok

 

i wouldnt push the car hard until the misfire is solved, it could get nasty if its an ecu problem;)

I had a mate that worked on them before. He had a look at it when I first got it and said there was a HKS ECU, front mount intercooler, uprated fuel pump, bigger injectors, hard piping kit, induction kit, de-cat pipe, cat back exhaust and he suspected it had upgraded turbos. I cant seem to get in touch with him now tho, so I'm left om my own.:(

My car usualy boosts around 1.5 bar.

i bet that shifts:d so its over BPU i would deff recomend the NGK BKR7E if its not already got them( might even have the other things irodium? plugs are they?) and i hope the turbo's are uprated;) lol 1.2 bar is the max you wanna go on standard j-spec tubbies

 

youl have to post back here when you plugs come let us know if its solved it;)

Ummm. Im not honestly too sure what type of plugs are in it

As far as I know the tubbies have been done. The person that had the car before me has obviously spent the money on it, as all the bits seem to be HKS.

I sure hope its just the plugs and nothing major. Are the coil pack connectors a big jpb to change?

not realy a big or hard job but made my back hurt :(

no matter where you stand the engine is soo far away:D

dont mix the wire up keep them the same in the new plug as the old ;)

Hey all. Finaly got my spark plugs today and Im not long finished fitting them. My car seems to be running fine now :yahoo:

As already said, it's probably new coil pack connectors that you need, these are the plastic plugs on the end of the wiring loom that connect to the coil packs.

 

I can supply for a couple of £'s each, but if you need urgently best to source locally. This is the part number you need.

 

90980-11246 Coil Pack Connector

 

If you do need new coil packs, I can supply for around £50 each but would need to order.
