Obsure car insurance questions

Anyone know..

You know when they send you your shedule to sign, check and send back? What if you say reduce your mileage to half what is written there if you feel you wont be doing that. Eg 6k miles to 3k miles.

Are they obliged to refund some of your premium, if you have already paid annualy?

Next question you won't be able to answer. :p

What are the list of occupations / industries that are more risky for insurance purposes? Who has this highly secretative - or so it would seem - information to divulge here. :)

No they do not need to refund anything, best asking them I guess.

Journalists I believe are high risk.

sounds about right.

Yeah I know broacasting industry is higher.... so people like angus deaton, and trevor macdonald must be paying through the nose.

With occupations there is no secret list as almost every company will load and discount differently. There are a few things to think about though to give you an idea. Unskilled workers and blue collar workers are generally proven to claim more as well as people who go on site such as Labourers. Also for wealthier clients how quickly wealth has been accrued will have an effect, so lotto winners are quite shocking to insure compared to 'old money' clients.

Also as it's been mentioned above after the 14 day cancellation period you don't really have any refund rights as such, apart from those set out in the contract at the start of the policy. Some contracts will also include no refund at all if cancelled mid term, so any refund outside of that stated in the contract I would take as a gesture of good will.

Also with dropping the milage from 6k to 3k it is very possible that there is no further discount available, or the refund may fall below the minimum they will return.

Cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

I was told I couldn't have 3rd party cover on another car when taking out a fully comp policy on the Supra by one insurer due to working in motorsport. I told them it was ridiculous as I could be a design engineer for any company and do pretty much the same job. They wouldn't budge though.... I ended up going elsewhere.

I don't really understand the sentence with design engineer in it. But it makes sense to go elsewhere doesn't it? I can't believe just becuase you work in motorsport that that would make your more of a liability.
