i keyed the surface with 800 wet and dry, used plasticote high temp black bbq paint from BnQ, no primer (good keyed surface) no lacquer (this paint is durable and keeps a matt finish) came up really nice but takes a while to set as its high temp paint.

you can also get it from halfords, but i needed other bits n bobs from BnQ to do my headlights, plus it was a lil cheaper too! don't think all plasticote paints are high temp, i was afraid the high beam will burn normal paint as it even burns the orignal chrome (j-spec) after a while. so the bbq paint was good in my opinion and is the colour i wanted. i'll post some pics when I load them from my phone.

I forgot to mention, i also used panel wipe (degreaser) and tacked before painting so the paint would stick better. then dust coated the paint on using multiple layers and a heat gun.

I gave mine a quick wet and dry, primer then satin black, didn't bother with the laquer, i think the shiney finish wouldn't have looked right on my Black car. I also used some meguires plastx on the inside and outside of the lense to get rid of any yellowness. I think that masking the rings to leave them chrome makes loads of difference and well worth the time.

There wasn't enough sealent left on mine so went to Halfords and got a small tube of black windscreen sealent (i think) which did the job, hasn't misted up yet!

My effort: (alhough its hard to see because of the reflections)

I have 1 pair left ;) Probably the last ever pair too as the moulds gave up the ghost after the last run!!!

I was thinking of buying some when the they were being made, but then i saw that you needed to cut bits off and glue them on neatly, so being me i knew i would mess it up and didn't bother

I'm glad you asked this as I'm planning to do this myself over the next couple of day's. If you dont mind me asking, What are you using to seal the light's back up with?

aww mate.. you going for that face lift look?

I would not dare paint mine. 1 for fear of amatuer finish and bad durability, and 2 cos I don't like facelift.

haha TBH I thought I'd try as you don't know if you can do these things until you try & I've also got myself a set of clear lense's that gaz done a group buy. Anyway what's the worst that could happen? If it goes b@lls up I'll just buy a new set or get someone else to do them!
