Shadow Beast Posted December 22, 2007 Share Posted December 22, 2007 Well that's it guys, it was my last day in work today serving with the British Army, i have served 15 years and 120 days! I made a desicion last year on my return from Iraq to sign off, i have seen enough, been put in to many positions that i do not agree with. and when i am risking my life to help people in these countries and some of them are ready to kill me with the flick of a button i am calling it quits! I have enjoyed my time in the army, i will miss my mates because i truly believe that they are the best you will ever meet. Our sense of humour at times is very dry but it is what gets you through. Of course you'll miss it as its been your life for the last 15 and a half years. I think you've more than served your time though. Pot Posted December 22, 2007 Share Posted December 22, 2007 I'm honestly not taking the piss (And I don't think you thought I was), I find it amazing when you say: Normally we waited till either the camp got hit with a couple of rockets at night As if it was a usual thing to do for anyone, that's what makes me support our guys, when we had the floods here I wasn't worried as I'm in a 1st floor flat, likewise I've got another floor above me in case of mortar attack, but to have that on your mind (And happening too I should presume?) deserves a ton of respect... As I'll be straight up the M5 (My 'rents' live close to a place where they can get over a hill so I know I just have to think about getting myself away) Without turning this into a sympathy post, I applied for Sandhurst, going through Welbeck, but I was turned down due to issues with my knee, but when I was in the cadets (Pates CCF) I was the one they called 'Army Barmy', and I loved the idea of joining up, I was the first in my year to become an advanced cadet, and the top scorer in Advanced Signals, the best shot in the Cadet GP, the SA80, the LSW, the .22, and the GMPG (Having an indoor range at school worked ) - I also went on exercise with the Light Infantry (Which ended up with me getting my leg crushed in a Scimitar ), and spent many weekends in a few camps (Catterick was my most memorable, but I really admire the Ghurkas in Dartmoor) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've worked in support of our guys and gals several times, SL being the most memorable. The Ghurkas are scary fantastic and since working with them I've been a supporter of their pension claims and other cack they've had to put up with from our Gov.
