Anybody fancy helping me? I am trying to put an MPEG onto a DVD to play on my player. Problem is it ends up being too big of a file for the DVD (4.5GB). I have tried encoding it (makes the file smaller) but still too big for the DVD. It is doing my head in. I am new to all this DVD stuff so any info would be appreciated. :)

is the file compressed in anyway? (divx, xvid etc.)?

i usually use a program called virtual dub which allows you to rip and uncompress the sound file from the mpg. This is becuase when the mpg is converted to put on a dvd the sound and image usually end up out of sync - way out of sync.

I then sue a program called TMPgenc which allows you to convert the file to mpeg2. The software allows you to reattach the uncompressed sound file to the video file (keeping it in sync)

You can then use some sort of dvd creator software (ulead movie maker) which will allow you to authour the mpeg2 file (add menus , chapters etc) and burn the file on to dvd to play in your player.

Usually you can get a 700Mb mpeg file into about 1.8Gb - 2Gb so it will fit on to a disc,

hope this helps any probs just pm me

More useful help can be found on http://www.dvdrhelp.com - including locations for the software
