Thanks - i have printed of the diagram for the brake light conversion - give my auto electrician something to do! i thought that clear indicators and repeaters were a plan - where is the best place to buy them from? do we have to get genuine wheel bearing and camblet - and what aboutt he tensioner and water pump (are these all connnected like in most cars?)?
-

Anna my girlfriend has just bought this car. after a long search and nearly giving up, this fella ticks all the right boxes. quiet as a mouse, pin straight and un messed with. purported to be a 1 owner example (which i have no cause to dispute) this thing is EXACTLY what we were looking for. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-SUPRA-3-LITRE-24-VALVE-VERY-RARE-MANUAL-GEARBOX_W0QQitemZ330033804130QQihZ014QQcategoryZ18290QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Anna is understanderbly made up. we got it for £3900 which i think was a fair price. the seller was straight up about a couple of things that need doing. before we went, he mentioned that there was a wheel bearing making a noise, its the usual thrum, and its the near side rear. so we will need to have that done. i wanted to list some things that we want to do to the car and if possible, get soem feedback from you guys as to the best way to tackle the part sourcing. Cambelt - want to do this, despite car having only covered 40k miles, it needs doing on a 13 year old car IMO. wheres the best place to buy it from, and any notes on fitting? should we do the water pump and tensioner (guessing yes)? Wheel bearing - as covered above - again, where to buy and any tips? Tyres - need doing, thats in hand, goignt o go for toyo t1-r as they have always been good to us. Stereo and alarm - being fitted on friday, so no help needed there. Headlights - misty and discoloured - the usual thing, but can these be replaced with clear items? i have heard there are some available - guidance on tjhis would be very appreciated. Load cover in boot - presume in a garage in japan! can these be bought new? i would think they are rae to find S/H. cheers everyone.

Ok guys. thanks for all the info and amusing comments about my dinner - thought i would bring that up - oops another comedy double entendre! however, i digress... i have looked around and i am struggling to see the low mileage, pre facelift cars that are out there for 4K. the black car of stealthosts is up for £5200 without the goodies and its an auto. the red one offered to me by Carl earlier in the thread is up for £3995 on the mkivsupra owners club, but he has given me a price via email of 5.5k cash and between 3.5k and 4k cash with the mr2 (value say, £1500 on part-ex). to say i am confused about the value of these cars is an understatment. i emailed the top spec importer, Marc for info - i told him what i wanted and what we are prepared to spend - he has probably read it and either laughed or felt insulted. i asked him for a low mileage manual car, between £4-5K. as an importer is he going to be able to do this? We are keen CASH buyers. we dont want a pile of shit - we want a good quality, low mileage used example of an NA manual - colour not all that important, we just want it screwed togther right and it needs to be mainly standard. all these veilside bodykits et al, and no offence to those with such, and this is purely subjective, IMO TOTALLY ruin what is an elegant car. not particuarly interested in mahoosive rims either, as anythig above 18", compromises the handling and ride. 17" is what we are after - std rims, perfectly acceptable. huge drain pipe exhausts, unless quiet, or bunged are out to. maybe i am asking the earth, but surely there is someone out there with a car to suit our requirements, within the reasonable price braket suggested, of £4-5k. btw - that blue face lift soop is a beauty - but we are unwilling to spend that much ona car. cheers for all the help so far - its extremly useful and highly valued. Weave -
they work well - lrc100 is the one to have - i have had one an it worksa.

***EDITED AS I HAD DINNER AND DID NOT INCLUDE DETAIL IN THE POST*** ok guys. thats very interesting. i have seen the auction sheet and milage is verified on there. Chris - i hear what you say and thats beneficial to my decision. i have seen various prices rangine from 4-6k in autotrader, both private and trade. they tend to fall into the 5-6k price bracket from what i have seen. i am very interested in your comments Chris, as i hope you are able to point me to someone who can supply a car to me and Anna for 4k with the mot, tax and warranty for that price. i want to get the best deal after all. the guy with the 39k kilometre blue supra has offered the following - which i am not going to accept i might add. the Mr2 - which we have both agreed is £1500 quids worth P/X, as i could probably make £1800 in a private sale. he wants £5k on top - BUT he is prepared to fit a thatcham 1 cat alarm and immobiliser, warrantty it, fit a stereo, convert it to miles with the limiter removed, and tax it for 6months. what deal would you guys strike with him for the mr2 and cash, plus doing all of the above? -

cheers all. its got an auction sheet with it, and its grade 4b. he says "he" warrantys the mileage - quite how i dunno?!?! spoke to him for the 2k for the mr2 and the 5k he will do everything - reg, mot, tax, belt and 6 mths warranty. got no way to verify the mileage - but it is CLEAN. useful info guys many thanks. its at a place called "Richardsons autos" near Bournemouth - he also has a place near Winchester. he is a classic Spiv used car sales man. -
ok - myself and the Chickster have found a car we like for her, (dark blue supra MY93 NA - 39k kilometres!)as a replacement for the beloved Mr2. its at a dealers currently, un-reg'd and un-MOT'd. so if we wait for the dealer to mot and register the car, we are in a position to part-ex the mr2 for GOOD money, give him a bit of cash and take the car away for a decent price, given a bit of horse trading. BUT. if i suggest that we take the car un-reg'd and un-MOT'd (remember that cars over ten years old that are imported do not need SVA) we give considerably less cash. i can trailer it away and the delaer has no hassle whatsoever. the deal is: asking price 6995. scenario a: assume the car is reg'd and mot'd. we give him the mr2 which he says he will give 2k for. he wants another 5k on top. i suggest haggling him down 2-3 hundred quid. we still have to fit and alarm, get the timing belt done (i realise its not due, but its a 13 year old car. we get a six month warrnaty with it, but no tax. scenario b: we rock up with the same plan as above however, the car IS un-MOT'd and un-reg'd. i offer the mr2 and less cash. or maybe JUST cash? i can trailer the car away on my rally car trailer. i then reg and mot the car. what do you think? bottom line is, we want the car - its a 3.0 supra with 39k kilometres on it and its MINT. just got to find the best way of getting the BEST deal.

its not essential to have an aero top, but if a nice one came up she woud go for it. so looking for an N/a of any description really! either man or auto aswell! should get one ok.
-
thanks lads - off to bed with food for thought.
-
mr lover - YHPM!
-
isle of wight is prime for a supra - i hustle my old mans 4.3 V8 merc e class estate no worries!
-
lol@ all of you! another question: do the aerotops come with aircon? off round europe in august (south of rance, italy, austria, czech rep, germany , belguim, home.) need aircon at that time of year - only just bareable in the mr2 with out aircon in May. so if not, got to take the noisy 200sx or buy a hard top with aircon. seems a shame not to take a supra if we have one by then, although i am sure the 200sx will do an admirable job.
-
so whats Mister lovers sup worth guys!
-
oi you - Gaz - i have seen your location!
-
lol - well yeah, but relatively speaking, they aint too bad, when you consider some options.
-
fairly heavy then, but the rest of the stats stack up nicely - esp 2mpg. remarkebly quick to 60, but i suspect the gearing helps.
-
so come on then - what do YOU guys think Mr Lovers Red aerotop is worth - i have my own ideas, but i want to see the general concencus.
-
PMSL! and
-
also, whats the general mpg on these? performance stats and weight of these brutes would be helpful too. i think a modded on would be good, so lon as its limited to zorst etc - nothing outrageous.
-
lol - red ones are nice. i am on the isle of wight as it goes, so its a ferry trip whichever way you look at it. she will spend as much as 7k if needs be, but would prefer a little less. the mr2 tubby has need considered, but finding them is tricky, plus she would just as soon as keep her current mr2. its leather, t-bar uk car and we got it for a steal (1200 quid!) off my brother in law. it is pukka, but she really lies supras and has for some years. interested in some top notch piccies of anyones car thats for sale!

availabilty on N/A is great. price is great. power and drive for her is great. reliabilty is great. me jumping into it every now and then a toasting it - not so great. i have had highly modified subarus and evos (highly modded - not air filter, zorst and bleed valve touch) so i am used to bloody quick cars, hence my reticense towards an NA. however it is to be HER car and she is concerned about fuel and does not worry too much about stupid poke, and frankly its better if she has a lesser powered version. she has a 35 mile round trip every day, so the NA makes sense. i suppose i should stop being so damn selfish, after all i have a rally car (mk1 escort rs2000) and a slightly modified 200 sx. i went for a competition car and decent road car as a compromise. anyway, enough about me, the car IS for the missus and i reckon the NA is the way to go. so manual of auto? she is not that fussed, though a manual would be more fun on the roads she drives and she does drive well and enjoys it. it would serve to improve her development as a driver. given about 6k i reckon a decent supra na, with aerotop is achieveable - please carry on guys, i am enjoying your indulgement of my question. frankly i expected a few yawns and "use the search function" comments! :D cheers so far! and the Mr2 is N/A.
-
My Missus is after a Supra. she is coming from an Mr2 t-bar. she really fancies an aero top, but the condition of the cars is more important. so tin top no worries. the thing is, i am convinced that the twin turbo model is obviously the one to have - finding them is harder. are the N/A ones worth looking at? but seriously, from a subjective point of view, what is the ownership of the turbo versus N/A arguement? if anyone can help cheers - done to death i am sure, but surely one of the most common debates on here!
