  1. The UK spec fuel pump flows slightly more than the Walbro 255l/hr, the J-spec pump less. The fitment is also different between the UK and j-spec, these are the codes for the Walbro 255, they are a straight swap for the stock pump.

    J-spec = Walbro GSS342

    UK Spec = Walbro GSS341

Thanks mate. So I don't need different wiring harness with this pump then?

  2. I would use a stock denso USDM pump.

Was looking at these on mvp. Are they different to jdm?

What ever you do, don't buy a fuel pump from eBay as the majority are known to be fake. Get your pump from one of the traders on this forum to be safe :)

Na i will most likely buy from mvp or whiffbitz as I found them good in the past.

    Hey Rab.

    Been a while mate!

I could recommend the Aeromotive Stealth 320lph pump to you.

Much better performance than most of the usual replacement pumps, I bought mine after a newly fitted Walbro 255 seized solid the first day it was used.

Well Damien between work & kids I've not much time for play now lol. Are these pumps plug & play? Where did you get yours?

  3. Jeez it's been a while 

What fuel pump do you lot recommend for a bpu? Car was parked up for a few years but started fine last week to come out the garage for a wash & clean. Now after a week back in the garage it's a non starter because fuel pump has failed. I was hoping to have the time to get her back on the road for the better weather.

Anyway I was looking at the walbro 400lph pump but is this over kill? Also looking at the walbro 255 but looking at specs I think stock pump flows more than the walbro 255.

  4. Yeah just a multimeter as i don't have a scope. I was just testing the signal wire from speed sensor in gearbox & hand turn the rear wheel. When i do this i get voltage fluctuating between 0-11v then after the speed converter test it there & i'm getting similar readings. My converter is down about 1 foot away from the speed sensor, it's about the size of a sim card & has an input, output, positive & negative. This is the first time i've done any work with these converters, just not 100% with them.

  5. Has anyone ever tested a failed speed converter? I'm getting a fluctuating voltage both sides of my speed converter but no speed reading in the car. But here's the strange part when i test the speed converter for resistance it's showing open circuit. Now i'd expect open circuit on a failed converter but why am i seeing voltage both sides?

  6. I agree, 400 bhp isn't enough. The mkiv had 326 bhp nearly 21 years ago. So we get 74 extra bhp after 21 years of evolution hmmm. IMO it should have atleast 550 bhp but tbh i don't think the supra will be back, i do think toyota will bring a sports car into production but don't think it will wear the supra badge.

  7. Link to wiring diagram on post #17: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?274212-1996-Supra-N-A-5spd-problems!-Check-Engine-and-!/page2

The diagram shows you how to wire up a TRL speed converter, but it also does a good job of explaining what some of the wires going into the speedo and ECU do.

If your pink wire in the ECU goes nowhere, you should be getting a code 42 error. Do your error warning lights work? Anyway, that's a secondary issue.....

The speedo gets its input signal on pin 5 (blue with red stripe) of the speedo plug. Follow what that wire is connected to. It often leads to the speed converter.

Yeah i'm getting that error code since i lost my speedo & all my warning lights work.

Thanks for the diagram & help, i will print it & look into this again at the weekend.

  8. Thanks for all your comments, I think I'll pass on buying them as I would have to change the lens as they would be blinding other drivers, then I would have to make the new ones black as well because that's the look I'm after. So I'll think of something else.

Are you after black lenses or black inserts?

  9. Be aware of the headlights pointing towards the wrong side of the road blinding other road users, and if the lenses are too dark they might not meet UK's legislation.

I think he just means facelift headlights, could be wrong though.

  10. The speedo converter will almost certainly be wired in behind the speedo somewhere. If your speedo doesn't work, the signal is being lost close to its source (it goes to the speedo first, the speed signal actually reaches the ECU last).

Havw you got a wiring diagram to show me which wires are what because there is no sign of a speed converter that i can see. I know there must be one but i'm thinking the wire that's left at the ECU must be for another one which was in it before, now god knows where they have hidden this one.

  11. My speed converter was the size of 2 stamps lol

Ah crap life just got worse, now i'm looking for a needle in a haye stack lol.

Can you remember if yours was wired into the ecu or could it be wired away from the ecu somewhere?

Sorry to keep throwing questions but this is doing my head in this weekend.

  12. Ive heard it can be in the footwell aswell but mine was behind the dash. Definately the converter

I have followed the wires from behind the clocks to the ecu & can't see anything :(

I don't understand what way it can be wired because i thought it had to be connected to the pink wire on the ecu?

Doesn't make sense to me, it read in MPH but no signs of nothing wired to ecu?

I'm going to have to look at this again. Am i right in thinking a speed converter is about wallet size?

  13. I see a few people had this fault. Was all of yours speed converter related?

I have a post but can't get an answer so maybe a little input from some of you that have had the problem.

    Here's my post:

Since i bought my jdm tt6 8+ years ago it has read speed & distance in miles. Since the car was left in the garage for a few months i have had no speed or distance reading on my car. I have stripped the dash looking for a speed converter but can't find nothing at all. Looking at the ecu the pink wire at the top right has a green wire with speed sensor wrote on it bridged into the pink but is only about a foot long & left under the carpet going no where.

I dyed my carpet black a few years ago & noticed this wire back then but all was working fine so thought nothing of it.

Any ideas what way my car must be reading miles or where else i can look for a converter?
