  1. Guys,

I'm after a T-61 turbo ... seen at the link below:

    u

Have a few questions and would greatly appreciate some help.

    What's the difference between E-Cover and S-Cover?

I am looking for as quick spool as possible, so I am assuming it is best to go wih the smallest exhaust housing. But, How does this limit me in terms of the amount of power I can build?

    THanks

EDIT: Been reading of something called compressor surge which occurs when the exhaust housing is too small ... can anyone touch on this?

  2. Hey mateys,

Just changed a bad 2nd turbo on my vvti TT. Luckily, this time around I could get the 2nd turbo off a mate of mine. But, in my mind, i know its a used turbo and I don't expect to get alot of time out of it.

Been exploring the option of going single and I am settled on a Precision T-61 turbo, tial wastegate, PE 650 CC injectors and Emanage Ultimate.

Problem is .... right now, I live out in the caribbean and around here everyone throws in a wideband and uses and Apexi S-AFC to adjust fuel.

I have asked around before on the forum an it seems the best emanage tuner is IanC, but he no longer does it.

Ultimately, I would like get in contact with someone who is versed on the EMU so that I can probably log some data, send it over to them, they would then send me back a map... and we repeat the process until we get it right.

I know this is not the perfect scenario, but its the best solution I have for now

  3. finally got around to pulling out the twins. The front turbo was in perfect condition, but found that the compressor wheel of the back turbo was damaged and there was ALOT of shaft play.

Swaped it out for a used turbo which seems to be in good workign condition. Gave the car its first run and found that I only hit 1 bar at most with no Restrictor Ring fitted.

Question I have here is, should I still fit a restrictor ring even if the car is not doing as much boost as it should do?

    THanks

  4. Would installing and correctly adjusting one of these on a BPU supra with a Walbro Pump be a good upgrade

Was speaking with a mate of mine who owns one of those 2.5 vvti single turbo soarers. His car only has a catback, FMIC and Walbro installed. He was telling me that by installing one of these and setting the pressure to 38 PSI, he noticed that his car went through the RPMs much faster

  5. Hey Guys,

Been having some boost or should I say 'lack of boost' problems with my BPU Sup.

Been at an alternate location working for some time ... but now i'm finally back to check her.

One of the things a mechanic friend suggested to me is to try fitting an EBC to eliminate the stock solenoids as these can cause boost problems.

Been thinking, is it worth it to go out and buy a new EBC (had one fitted but it was faulty) when I may not necessarily need it? is there any way I can check the solenoids?

    Thanks

    Dudley

  6. Matey,

Instead of throwing all the quid away on expensive coilovers .... Maybe you can consider getting the Tein SS and improving other parts of your suspension as well.

When my stock suspension went, I considered the HKS Hipermax also, but I ended up going with Tein SS, TRD Sway Bars and Cusco tower bars.

The car sits on 18" wheels, and granted I've never driven a pricey super car or touring car, I have had the car with this setup for 6 months now, and everytime I go out for a drive in it, I am still amazed at how well it handles ..... seems to just pull around corners.

I have kept it at the ride height it came with, but what I've found is that, you need to play with the Tein SS ride adjustment to find what best suits the roads you drive on most frequently. As, on the hardest setting, the car drives like crap .... bumps all over the road. On the softest setting, the car seems to sag and feel unconfident.

  7. Anyone ever tried a GT3076? very popular with the evos for 500bhp and would be super fast to spool on a big 3.0L.

Been doing some reading Jamie; and some on here tend to think that it'll run out of breathe uptop; have a look at the link below:

    http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=119221&highlight=GT30&page=2

Although, interestingly the supra in the famous video of the amuse supra and mines skyline uses a GT30:

And if I may add, it seems to move pretty well

  8. The size of the turbo is pretty irrelevant to the costs unless you go really mad and want over 500 BHP. A set of forged pistons and a pair of cams in a rebuilt engine should handle a small turbo, it's when you want serious power and you need crank and rods that the price rockets. IMO a decent small turbo on a refreshed engine, done and mapped is about 10 to 12K.

Sorry Chris, by Go big here, I meant go all the way (with all the necessary bits)

  9. If you want to do a single a stages you can but you need to be careful which parts you do first, the single turbo should be last.

I would do it in these steps from a new car, this is a very rough list off the top of my head :-

    01. Exhaust -Done

    02. Fuel Pump -Done

    03. Decent IC -Done

    04. Good brakes, either UK/US or aftermarket -Done

That is roughly BPU level which is a good base to start going further, I would then do the following in this order.

Although not 100% required I would install EGT and AFR gauges at this point.

    05. Clutch and flywheel -Done

    06. fuel controller, either piggyback or replacement with mapping -EMU bought .... but doesn't it make sence to map once with bigger injectors and single?

    07. fuel system, either drop in injectors or full system (remapped to suit)- Agree ... So maybe I should look to buying the injectors then; as besides the cheap manifold, its the only aspect which I was contemplating cutting back on

    08. install single (remapped to suit)

    My thoughts in red above

  10. I appreciate all the great feedback guys.

    Here was my angle though:

The cost of buying a pair of new twins is not a problem. In all honesty, my long term goal was to have a small-mid single supra. So, now that my turbos are on their way out, I am thinking, why sponge on a set of new twins when I can use that money plus some towards starting my single project considering I already have some of the supporting mods : EMU, TRD clutch, FMIC, Walbro

But what I am getting from your guys is either u go big ... or u don't go; in other words, there can be no phased approache.

Guess now, I have to look at the bank book ... talk to the girly ... and see what can be done
