  1. Writing this with complete ignorance as I don't even know if the NA has 1 or 2 cats! Is there a noticeable increase in performance if you de-cat and if so, who does the pipes?
  2. Fronts readily available from Toyota, as fitted to the new Celica and probably others. About £12 each from what I remember
  3. Darren are you still fannying around with this? I'm sure the light-out warning is the best route to take. Any mod to the fuel/temp face will be a disaster - I've tried it with other cars, it always looks crap. You either see a cut or the icon can be seen during daylight. If you really want to do it, use the UK gauge. Have you priced one up? Did you ever sort out the trim panel for the switch? I've still got one without cut outs if you want it. No, the fog warning "off" with ignition off is not a failure. They only test the fog light works along with other lights (so engine running) and that there is a warning light.
  4. Mytyres look to be the cheapest. They appear to be a german outfit - maybe the odd sizes aren't popular in Deutschland. Contact them, ask for a price and then check with your local to make sure you are saving the money!
  5. Take a look at Mytyres.com (I think) there is normally a link through the Autotrader site. They were doing 225/50/16 Avon Z1 at £81 incl delivered.
  6. Alarms and immobilisers seem to break the same circuits - starting and ignition. With the fitters doing the job within a time scale, the easy option is to cut the circuits at the back of the ignition switch. I read a posting here describing how a Supra was nicked in 50 seconds although it was fitted with a Clifford cat 1. The starter relay is under the bonnet so easy to by pass the immobiliser. However, if the alarm (or a secondary immobiliser) had been cutting circuits to the ECU inside the car, that would have slowed the thieves down. So the question is which circuits without doing any damage?
  7. With you so far, but with regard to wheel/tyres, I presume the calculations give an optimal size for each. That being the case, how wide is the "acceptable" band? I presume that another factor considered has to be styling at the expense of handling possibly? With regard to the Supra, why did they go to 16" for the SZ when everything else was running on 17"?
  8. JTT, are you in the US? If so, I don't think your Probe GT is what we know as a Probe
  9. Fitting the UK fog light switch to an import. Not as straight forward as I thought. The switch has 8 contacts on the back. Anyone got the wiring diagram or know what goes where? Any help gratefully received!
  10. Do I understand that speed sensors near the wheels drive the speedo? If so, front or back? My car will have to go through an SVA and accuracy of the speedo is one of the tests. This is not the accuracy of the unit itself, but whether it shows a true speed. This can obviously be effected by the wheel/tyre size. At the moment the car has the standard 16" wheels which I want to change to 17s. Whatever, for the SVA it will need "E" marked tyres. So I am considering buying a couple of 16" cheap-as-chips tyres to put either front or back to make sure the speedo is accurate. Alloys. Does anyone know of suppliers who give a good discount?
  11. Thanks Gareth, but I am not sure that would be the answer. The replacement dial sets usually cater for the UK speedo and/or a replacement for an import. It would be unlikely that the scales correspond. For instance, on a UK car 60mph could be at 12 'clock. On an import, 100kph (60mph) may be at 2 o'clock. Add a converter and 60mph (the old kph) would be at 10 o'clock. Neither of the replacement faces would be correct. Oh, and that's another addition to the SVA - speedo accuracy. They chain the car down to a rolling road and check the accuracy for 30, 40 ,50, 60 & 70!! The speedo must not under-read, but I think can over read by 10% (?) Would be interested to know what top speed is shown on a UK car.
  12. Following the recent changes to SVA, I would be interested to know the solution for speedos on imports. The test now demands a realistic top speed and 110mph is not accepted for the Supra. The replacement faces only go to 110 (don't they?) A converter is ok, but you still use the original face which does not have a kph scale (now needed) Is the answer to buy a UK speedo?
