Replacing battery with OE Toyota Alarm/Immobiliser?

Further to my misfire thread (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=187758), I have a local mechanic comming out to me tomorrow with more h-tech dianostic and scoping kit, plus will be looking to do the coil pack connect clips & coil. He asked me if the car has a fully charged battery - since being off the road, NO. So I told him to get a BOSCH or Toyota one and just bring it with him, I can't be arsed to f*ck about, I need the Supra on the road asap.

 

However, I just went to the car, and even the OE toyota alarm/immobilier fob would not deactivate the alarm system by fashing the indicators. Whilst I can use the key to access the car, I'm concerned the alarm may still go off. I have another small key for the alarm system which you use to overide it under the bonnet (I haven't got a clue about this sort of thing).

 

Tomorrow, when I get the new battery, can I just access the car with the key, flip the bonnet and change the battery? or do any particular steps need to be taken when replacing the battery due to the OE alarm/immob system?

Hope you don't mind, but I've copied your PM below should it be of use to fellow members in the future if they every find themselves in the same position with regards to a battery change.

 

SUBJECT: TOYOTA 5000 THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM

 

STARTING VEHICLES WITH A FLAT BATTERY

 

Guidance

 

If you wish to jump start a vehicle ( or reconnect a fully charged battery ) to a vehicle

which is fitted with a Toyota 5000 Theft deterrent system, the following procedure

should be followed. This should prevent the remote control handsets locking out .

 

Before disconnecting the battery

 

1) Turn off the siren with the master key. The siren has its own Ni-Cad

Battery which will cause it to sound when the vehicle battery is disconnected

Unless it is switched off.

 

2) Remove the DOME Fuse. This is located under the bonnet in the main

junction box.

 

3) Disconnect and Remove the battery.

 

 

When Re-connecting the battery .

 

1) Ensure the siren is turned off with the master key .

2) Ensure DOME Fuse is removed .

3) Refit the battery and reconnect the terminals correctly.

4) Turn on the ignition .

5) Insert the DOME Fuse.

6) Turn off the ignition

 

The Hazard lights should now be flashing

 

7) Cancel the alarm using the remote control handset . The indicator lights should

stop flashing . It may be necessary to hold the Black left hand button down for

up to 15 seconds (15 seconds means 15 seconds or longer ) – until the car

Locks or Unlocks itself

8) You should now be able to start the engine.

 

N.B. Remember to turn on the siren with the master key.

 

 

(Note : if the system should not respond to the remote controls check for

re-synchronisation .

 

If this is not successful, the following procedure must be followed:

 

With the positive terminal of the battery connected and the negative terminal

disconnected .

 

1) Turn Ignition on

2) Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery

3) Turn the ignition off

4) Press the left hand black button of the remote controll for 15 seconds

To re synchronise. The other remote if availible may also require

re synchronisation.

 

If the remote still does not operate then the Alarm ECU may be faulty.

If the above doesn't work, then unfortunately it's going to be a new alarm.

 

Scorpion, the company who originally made the Toyota 5000 alarm, no longer support that model; apparently it's too old for them to bother with.

 

Unfortunately I ended up having to install a new alarm.

According to an Engineer at Scorpion, these alarms really don't like being re-connected to the battery. It's at this point that they are most likely to fail.

 

I had mine re-programmed once by Scorpion (the button re-sync alone would not do it) which cost about £25. The second time it failed, Scorpion claimed they no longer had the equipment to re-programme it. :(

ah well... just waiting for the mechanic to turn up now, a failure with the alarm system is all i need as this will mean getting a decent repuatbel alrm specialist out to remove the thing and then having to splash out on a new one. Not so bad but the only thing I want is my misfire cured first and foremost.

Contacted a mobile chap who fitted some CAT 1 systems on previous cars for me, great chap never had a falw with his workmanship.

 

He said £45 to remove the alarm or £240 to remove the alarm and whack a new high quality CAT 1 in. So should I need a new alarm etc thats sorted.

 

Mechanic will be here in 30 minutes - my @rse is getting twitchy now and am feeling nervous......

Fwiw, cars done, and god is it quick now lol with a new coil!

 

As per the alarm, diconnected as per the instructions, fitted new battery etc, all went well without a glitch, no issues, no need to reset my stereo lol.

Pleased to hear all went well. :)

 

I was crapping myself all the way through the process thinking.... it's going to f*ck up now......now.........definately now lol.

 

However the info above was followed, touch wood no probs (need to nip out and switch the alarm back on, although it still works and the siren still functions....)

 

Also thanks for mentioning the issues, the chap who did my alarms on previous cars was ready and upto the job should we have ran into any bother.

Wow ...thank you so much scooter and DSK ....When the rains stops Ill go and give it a go ....Have fitted new batteries to both fobs and the little red light comes on but they didn't do anything before I drained the battery ...Does anyone know how to re sync the fobs to the Alarm ...Nothing like taking the P ...sorry guys hope you don't mind me asking

Ooooh ...so close and yet so far ...The second option with removing the negative terminal almost worked and allowed me to start the car with no problems but then when I went to start it again the alarm just went off again ....I have the round key that has the niblet sticking out and have found the alarm siren under the bonnet next to the battery but no matter what way I turn it ( 9 o clock or 12 o'clock ) it still has the siren going off ...and it's as if the siren is in the boot and I can't find it ...anyway ...gutted I can't get it started
