Matt _Aero top_
Over the last few days i've noticed a strange noise coming from arond the power steering pump . Not quite sure what it can be hopefully i think its just the belt thats wanting changing .... Heres the symptoms. It does it when cold and makes a quite loud sound but goes away once the engines warmed up. also just out of curiousity the other day when the car was still cold and the noise was quite loud i gave it a quick blast of WD40 and it went silent . Any ideas fellas ?? does this sound like just a new belt needed or is it more serious like bearings in the pump ? Forgot to say that the belt doesn't look that bad . Nic
It will be either the belt slipping, or low fluid. If the fluid is low and air has got into the system then pump will make a 'groaning' noise as you turn the wheel. If it is the fluid top up and bleed ASAP, as you'll soon damage the pump otherwise. D8MOA
ive found before that the powersteering cooler pipes leak where the bolt brackets are brased on! check these other will you may be looking for hours lol if it is low fluid that is
Nic
Yes water on the belt can make them slip and squeel, have you washed your engine bay recently?
Matt _Aero top_
No not washed the engine bay . But it needs doing badly ... lol.... Checked the fluid when the engine was hot after a drive home from work and the level mark was on cold so i topped up to the hot mark . So i'll see what tommorow brings . Matt _Aero top_
Quick question though ..... whats the bast way to bleed the system ? Is it just leave the cap off and turn for steering from lock to lock ? How many times should i do this ?
uksupra
mine was making strange noise so i just tried bleeding it and funnily enough loads of air bubbles appeared and once cleared its been fine since... £400 for a pump is not a nice xmas pressie! lui
How did you bleed it ? release power steering cap full lock from side to side & holding it for about 5-10 seconds in full lock repeat this 4-5 times that should do it & clear all air bubbles then once done let bubbles in reservior settle naturally
