moistfinger
Failed MOT today on emissions. I have a 1997 TT VVTI with both cats IN !!! Emissions were 6.0 when they should be 0.6 Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing the high emissions?. Car is standard with only a cat back exhaust. Ian W
i would have hazarded a guess at an O2 sensor but i wouldn't have thought a 97 car would have trouble with that (although it's still nine years old i suppose). am sure someone will be along to actually help you out soon enough mate
merckx
I've got a 97 VVTI too and it failed on this . I had put both cats back in aswell. The CO level was about 9.4 I put a new oxygen sensor in and it passed, the plugs were very black!
moistfinger
where do i find the oxygen sensor on the car ?
Kranz
Moist, the lambda sensor is on the exhaust downpipe, before the first cat. 20mm spanner required to turn it & get it out. Has 4 leads.
osso
I believe its accessible from the top, just before the first CAT pipe.
merckx
Moist, the lambda sensor is on the exhaust downpipe, before the first cat. 20mm spanner required to turn it & get it out. Has 4 leads. It must've changed on the later cars, mine had two 8mm or 10mm nuts to undo.

letmeshowyou
if you need one quick then Mr T. would be your best option I would have thought! Have a look in members for the post about Steve Manley
Kranz
Moist, test it first. There's a recent thread on how to do it. You'll soon see if its shot just by checking the correct pins on the diagnostic plug under the bonnet.
Jake
VVTi models don't have that diagnostics port.
Kranz
Oh, then he'll have to get back probing with 2 paperclips?!?
