Anyone have any experience with MKIII Supra GA70 Twin Turbo ?

Only a 2-litre 6, so revvy and gutless compared to the larger engines (1JZ, 2JZ), but apparently just as willing to take a load of boost. About 210bhp stock, IIRC. Manual uses a W58 'box.

Seems expensive compared to what they go for over here, but I don't know much about the market in Ireland. Does look clean, though.

This was at the Terenure Classic Car show ; forget if you looked at it . But it was very clean, similar condition as mine. The guy who owned it was in his 30's

Based on the condition I think she is worth more than 4K, she was stunning, nicest example I seen!

Colin and Marty in SSI this model is what they specialise in, maybe email Colin for what to look out for [email protected]

Marty and Colin have one each as well as the MKIV's, I know Marty has one running 500 or something stupid

If you look in that he says that's a picture of how he wanted his to look. The actual car looks a fair bit more tatty than that mint one in the picture!

Worth looking at with the 1jz in it , it is alot more reliable. I think it has potential but I doubth it is a clean as the other 4k car

The one you took pictures of at the car show looks a very nice example!

It was like new, I was shocked at its condition and was wondering if he would ever sell it; didnt think he would due to the condition

I Would nearly sell the JZA80 and get it , 2.0 motortax at 660 is alot better than 1400!!!!

Maybe drop a 2jz GTE in it !!

I know what you mean, taxing the supra really does ruin the enjoyment of owning it, as it makes your weekend car a very expensive luxury.

Just my opinion, but even though that mk3 is a beautiful car in great condition, it'll never have the looks or road presence of a normal mk4; never mind your trd! IMO you'd regret selling your car forever. Finding another mint trd in the condition your car is in would be almost impossible.

Mine has been in my family since new, and I wouldn't sell it for anything, ever.

Cheers Gareth , the market here seems to be fond of retro japanese cars lately , ae86's etc make massive money still here . It is a wonderfully clean example having seen it at the terenure car show that Jellybean posted it's pics from . I know it's only 210bhp but to be honest I don't have a need for something with massive horsepower just enough for a bit of kick every now and then . Looking at R32 GTST Skylines at the moment also , decisions decisions lol .

Mark I doubth you will get anything as clean as it for 4K, 90% of skylines over here are all dogs. 660 road tax ant bad for her

Do it, toyota reliabilty!!! I cannot see you loosing money getting it! People will pay for a clean example

Engine bay looks very well looked after!

I had a look at a Skyline in Kilkenny Sunday with Alan , thing wasn't a dog , that would be a compliment lol . Looked well on the outside but drove like a bowl of jelly , bad pocket of rust inside front valance , interior very shoddy , had a bad tip at the front at some stage of it's life. Either way whatever I end up with we may get the Supra-Skyline meets going again , wonder would I qualify for a free datsun valet :)

I currently own an MKiii so may as well throw my 2c in.

Looking to get back into a Supra but road tax here is too prohibitive to tax a mkiv at nearly 1400 a year . Has anybody here ever owned one of these ? Just looking for general advice before making more serious enquiries http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2466044 something like this I'd be looking to pick up.

Mark

That's a bit odd, its not often you see somebody fit UKDM lights/tailgate to a JDM car its usually the other way round, anyway the 1G-GTE MKiii is considered in the MKiii world to be a bit underpowered, in stock form its not quite as fast as the 7M-GE (UK 3.0L non turbo) and overshadowed by both the 7M-GTE and 1JZ-GTE cars, on the plus side its faster than the 1G-GEU car and more reliable than the 7M cars. For a comparison basis performance is about the same as a 200SX carrying a 300kg passenger.

One of my current cars is a 1JZ JZA70 Limited (top spec version of the MKiii) and looking at that advert the first thing it says to me is that it doesn't mention a new water pump, that means the car has a 20 year old water pump that costs £600 inc vat from Toyota (and only Toyota sell them) if it goes the only options are to buy one from them or to retrofit a 2JZ pump and Mondeo V6 fans (the shroud is almost a direct fit to the JZA70 rad, they cost £30 from a scrappy and seriously outperform flexalites).

Another thing that stands out on that car is modification, the 1JZ Mkiii is known for two things in MKiii circles, that water pump situation, and ceramic CT12A's that you can pop just with a decat pipe. Its Russia roulette messing with the exhaust on a JZA70, the general consensus is if you can't afford to fix/replace the turbo's then don't touch the exhaust. Some will be smoking within a few 100 miles of alteration some will last longer. Before 1JZ T3/4 manifold became widely available the used to be a kit specifically made for mounting a MA70 CT26 turbo to a 1JZ (thus allowing the use of MA70 downpipes) as this was seen as a much better solution to failed CT12's than rebuilds/hybrids.

Also the JZA70 R came with Recaro's as standard, the seat in the interior pic looks to be...well not them.
