foodfreak
Hi Guys & Gals, my egt gauge has failed.... started working intermitently & has now packed up altogether. I've circuit tested for continuity...o.k so no breaks in loom & shows a current of 4v, gauge has power & lights up but no reading......... sensor gone?...... ideas please as the gauge & sensor is not that old I can ask the supplier for replacement..... but need to find which part needs replacing John

Guest Terry S
Sensor gone John. Mine did exactly the same. Melted. I have a new sensor at Home BTW if that helps, but the are silly expensive ( i.e. more than half the cost of the enire gauge setup).
Barry
Oh, does it have a control box of some sort, I've seen a few have these!? Mine is an Autometer (not plumbed in yet), and just runs straight from sensor to the gauge. I need to get a new part for mine, the thread has gone where the sensor screws into the manifold. foodfreak
Cheers Terry, The original supplier has said he will order a new sensor for me straight away....but if it was the gauge it would have to go back. I'd be a little dismayed if it has melted... I've only ever seen 920c max on the gauge:eek: FYI ( it's in no.3 runner)
Guest Terry S
John I never saw any massive temps either. Has the car been jump started or had a big booster pack put on it?
foodfreak
Did have a booster on a but that was 2-3 months ago.....
Guest Terry S
does that conicide with the first problems?
foodfreak
not at all... this only started 2 days ago, messed about for 2 days.....then .. kaput I thought at first it was a broken wire, hence the continuity check
Guest Terry S
See mine happended at the same time as an electrical spike when someone put a booster on....
foodfreak
I suppose I'll know when I swap the sensor out:eek: can't think of any other way to test it in situ

Your EGT probe melted because you got a jump start? How so? -Ian
Guest Terry S
No saying it was the reason, just happened that it started playing up withing 1/2 hour or the big booster pack being connected. Now if it had ben set at 24v? The gauge got progressively worse bouning from one side to another, therefore useless. When pulled he tip had gone completely. BTW, get and AFR analyser instead.
