downimpact
I'm missing brake shims from my car, I intended to order some but on a track day yesterday someone was saying how they just keep more heat in the pad and therefore were better left off for track driving. Does anyone know if this is true? It sounds quite plausible to me. Also what do the little spring clips above the brake pads do? Thanks
Chris and Alana
As far as I am aware the shims 'help' prevent squeeling and such unwanted noises but I have read on here that without them the brake pedal feels firmer, not sure about what effect they would have on heat/fade etc but I would guess not very much either way
downimpact
Yeah I have read that thanks, but mine haven't squeaked once without the shims and I used over half the pad yesterday. Wondered if it might accelerate pad wear as well? Edited August 23, 2009 by downimpact (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
Unlees you are suffering from, and worried by squeal, leave them off. That's their sole purpose.
