Nic
Last call for anyone wanting to join the Oxygen Sensor group buy. See details here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=111237 Anyone who has a Supra with over 50k miles on the clock and has not changed their O2 sensor, your fuel economy could benefit greatly by fitting a new sensor. Here is a brief explanation of what the oxygen sensor does, The O2 sensor is located in the exhaust manifold, it monitors the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gasses, the ECU then uses this information to adjust the fueling. Oxygen sensors have a lifetime of around 30k - 50k miles, eventually they stop sending an accurate reading to the ECU, when the ECU receives a bad 'signal' it basically goes into default mode, richening the mixture to ensure there is sufficient fuel. A dud O2 sensor is the main cause of poor fuel economy and poor emissions. An overly rich mixture will also cause a reduction in power. Anyone with a Supra over 50k miles who hasn't changed their O2 sensor should benefit from fitting a new one, both in terms of better miles per gallon and smoothness of their engine. They are a little expensive, due to precious metals used in the sensor, but a new one will pay for itself in fuel savings very quickly. More details info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen_sensor The J-spec TT has one O2 sensor, the UK spec and NA Supras have 2.
