Guest 5upracol
maybe a stupid question but can any parts from the MKIII be used on the MKIV i see alot of MKIII's knocking around in salvage yards that could provide cheap repair alternatives. For example if you had a auto could you take the manual transmisson of the mkiii and fit it to your mkiv???

garethr
For example, if you had an auto, could you take the manual transmisson of the MkIII and fit it to your MkIV?You could, but.... The MkIII N/A uses a W58 'box like the MkIV N/A with a different bellhousing, and if you found a MkIV bellhousing it would probably have a gearbox attached. The MkIII turbo uses the stronger R154 'box, but you'd need a 1JZ-GTE bellhousing from Mr T in order to bolt it to a 2JZ.
Guest 5upracol
this is what i thought i just thought it may be possible as they both use the W58 Transmission

Guest 5upracol
i suppose you could also get the bellhousing from a lexus sc300 cos that also uses a 2jz if i'm right??

Tom
i suppose you could also get the bellhousing from a lexus sc300 cos that also uses a 2jz if i'm right?? Import uses a 1JZ, and R154 box (rare to find a manual)
ivan
One of the chaps on Dorset Jap Cars mentioned that he had a MkIV owner coming to buy his MkIII gearbox because they were supposed to be stronger. He's apparently been through a couple of MkIV ones already.
