Actuator valve? 2nd turbo problem...

Hey Guys,

Ok i used to have a little problem with the 2nd turbo, it never sometimes used to kick in, sometims the turbo timer just dropped to about 0.3 bar... after having read into it a little people are say, actuator valve problem, so the hose connecting it is probably split, I have tied both ends of the heat shield tight and searched for a split and to be honest the hose is in good nick...

Do youhave any other ideas or should I just take it into a turbo specialist?:search:

*sniff, and I wanted to have the 2nd turbo running for japfest too grr

yeah no probs... ok well what used to happen is...

When accelerating under full throttle, about the time the 2nd turbo comes online u can hear it trying to boost but nothing happens. This is generally in 2nd gear, if it boosts in 2nd gear it will work in all others.

Sometimes when it does catch the boost, it boosts then stutters, boosts then stutters, then finally boosts. If I drop down a gear it doesnt fix the problem.

If I was on a bypass, I could dip the clutch, let the revs drop right down (stop turbo spinning) then start again and most of the time if I was not at full throttle it would work.

Generally if I accelerated at 1/2 or 3/4 throttle, I could get the 2nd turbo to boost, but now the FMIC has been fitted I have no 2nd turbo at all...

My friend has an R32 which had a simela problem and it was a hose somewhere that had split, it let air through but then stuttered because it was leaking air... does that make more sense?

Your correct its the acutuator valve. A few have had the same prob. I had turbo's off by the time i worked out what was wrong!

aw mate, thats a sucker of a problem! It took me ages to find it but turns out its the exhaust actuator sensor thing, u can reach it from under the airbox. Turns out it has a shocking split in it and was hanging off...

My car has never driven like this before... I have just realised I actually have quite a quick car :D
