how to de-restrict ? plus other stuff

hi Newbie here

 

does anyone know how to derestrict an import (94 na) can this be done yourself, or do you have to take it to a specialist who does the clock facia's as well.

if anyone knows a firm in south yorkshire, it would be much appreciated.

and also what is the costs involved in this.

 

I am also looking for some alloys. and would like to know what size fits straight on (i have been told lexus sport wheels fit)

 

and i would like to find somwhere, preferably online, that sells exhaust ends. problem is my exhuast is 78ml round, and no one seems to stock anything that big.

how simple is it to do, I dont have any mechanical knowledge. is it a dashboard out job. or is it in the engine. and does it include white speedo/rev counter/temp/petrol gauges.

 

and if i decide to order one, how do i do that.

Speedo Unit Convertor Instruction

 

 

Disconnect the car battery.

 

 

Undo the 5 screws to remove the upper instrument cowling which contains the digital odometer, disconnect the cable connectors and withdraw cowling.

 

 

Undo the 3 screws to remove the odometer from the cowling then undo the 2 small screws which retain a plastic shield on the back of the odometer. With the shield removed the odometer electronic assembly can be removed.

 

 

With the odometer display facing you, locate the top row, 2nd thin pin from the right. Cut this pin to extinguish the KM symbol on the odometer display. Re-attach the odometer assembly back into the upper instrument cowling.

 

 

Carefully pull out the main instrument cowling then remove the gearstick surround, which unclips, and the two remaining instrument fascia panels which are secured by 1 screw each and various clips.

 

 

Undo the 4 screws which retain the speedometer then remove it. Carefully unclip the clear plastic window and apply the appropriate MPH sticker over the KMH mark then replace the window.

 

 

Take the SCU-011 Converter and crimp two M3 eyelet terminals onto the ends of the RED and GREEN wires then crimp a third M3 eyelet terminal onto the end of the BLUE wire but splice a 50cm length wire into the same eyelet.

 

 

Screw the RED wire to the top speedometer mounting screw at the rear of the instrument panel marked 'IG+'.

 

 

Screw the GREEN wire to the bottom speedometer mounting screw marked 'G'.

 

 

Screw the BLUE wire to the right speedometer mounting screw marked 'SI'.

 

 

Locate the 5th wire from left, Blue/Red, on the l/h blue instrument panel connector. Cut this wire, insulate the connector end and connect the YELLOW wire of the converter to the loom end of this cut wire.

 

 

Locate the Pink wire at the odometer connector. Cut this wire, insulate the connector end and connect the GREY wire of the converter to the loom end.

 

 

Locate the Blue/Red wire at the odometer connector. Cut this wire, insulate the loom end and connect the new wire from the ‘SI’ screw to the connector end.

 

 

Using a cable-tie strap the Converter to the loom then refit the instrument panel and test.

 

 

Delimiting of this vehicle occurs with the fitment of this Converter.

The problem with that is that it will also result in the whole car seeing a converted signal. That will mean the speed sensitive power steering will be too light (it thinks you're going slower than you are so gives too much assistance). Also the air con fan will blow slightly too hard as you speed up, again because it thinks you are going slower than you are. Also, technically, the car not delimited by this, just limited to 180mph rather than 180kph :).

 

I would use one of Pete's convertors http://www.trlperformance.com, as they have a mph output that you wire up as above, plus a kph signal and a clamped kph signal for delimiting. That means if you wire it up correctly your steering, cruise control etc will work as intended (the steering is much better with the correct amount of assistance).

Dear SimonB

 

The unit is actually supplied by a quite large import company, they carry out the SVA in house. i have fitted many of those before and does not seems the experience the problem you mentioned.

 

After the installation of the unit you clock will basically read upto 180mph :cool:

Performa, I'm sure you know your stuff, but this has been covered in minute detail on here severa times before. The Supra has way too many speed-related systems to get away with just putting a 5/8 pulse train divider into the circuit. As SimonB says the best way to do it on the Supra is to clamp the speed signal at just under 180kph, feed an unaltered signal to the PAS, aircon, active aero, cruise control (unless you want to delimit that too) and autobox (if fitted). You can also decide whether to feed the odo with a divded signal or an unaltered signal depending on whwther you want it to clock up km or miles after the conversion.

No offence were meant any where, i am basically saying what the manufacture told me ........... as they supply and fit them a lot.

 

But what you have mention was a very interesting aspect.

 

As mostly when i was working in japan i mainly fit product such as HKS SLD, Greddy Speed jumper etc.
