styggen82
HI Just finished making a new induction pipe on my J-spec TT, made the braket for the maf sensor and everything looked okay. startet it up and was kinda low on idle and my afr was all over the place....stepped on the trottle and the engine died.... my question is; is the position of the maf critical? center of the pipe or can it be set a little off center? Sean1933
Got any pics mate as im having trouble trying to picture it in my head...its been a very long day. Check for air leaks as your first port of call
styggen82
have checked all hoses twice, no leaks..... check my garage, and you`ll see a picture of the engine bay. It`s the sensor just after the air filter. you can see it just below the "small" BOV..... I`m trying to make a new stainless steel induction pipe and use a aftermarket filter with heat shield. so I need a place to put my maf sensor. and I installed the stock filter and voilâ, everything works perfect!!! so it`s back to the drawing board again..... I`ll try posting some pictures later tonight.....

Sean1933
Im not sure from that second pic as to where you plan on putting the MAF...but it needs to be in the direct flow. Air will always take the path of least resistance...therefore if its not in direct flow you will get a poor reading thus it will think there is less air comin in than there really is...therefore the car will run lean

I`m taking the sensor out later, will post some more pics then..

Sean1933
May seem like a stupid question but are you putting it in the right way around? Also, try using the stock mounting tube if possible. I still wonder if ther is an air leak..i take it you used the gasket around where the actual sensor bolts in?

Also, try using the stock mounting tube if possible. I still wonder if ther is an air leak..i take it you used the gasket around where the actual sensor bolts in? first thing i checked, it`s in the correct position. and yes i used a gasket on there. the car runs great on the stock system, it`s when I put in the homemade stuff it starts to f.... up. seems like the sensor is 2-3 mm out of level, so the air that`s flowing towards it will go around it, not through the opening where it`s supposed to:) I need to fix that and then check again. and I can`t separate the stock mounting tube from the air box, they are one pice:(
