Guest jimmyholster
pretty much said it in the title.... oh yeah and how to:blink: avoid it?
Daston
yep had this on my SZ at around 70mph lost powersteering and dash board looked like the enterprise. Not much you can do to prevent it when it starts squeeking just get a new one.
Digsy
Lots of people have. Its one of the common faults on elderly Supras. The best way to make sure it doesn't happen prematurely is not make sure that no-one uses a blowtorch on your main crank bolt during a timing belt change. As mentioned above, change it quick if it starts to squeal. Apparently they tend to "walk" forwards before they come rignt off, so if you hear a squeak you can check to see if everything is still in line. Ben-san
Yup, mine delaminated after 13 years of service - it's inevitable. As has been said, if it starts to squawk, take no risks and have it replaced before it walks off (into the rad at speed ).
Gazboy
Has anyone had failure or walk BEFORE a cambelt change?
robin
Its a shame its such a pain to change. I heard some squeeling the other night when I started the supra and did wonder if it was the crank pulley. It's not done it since though. Is it something you could get any old garage to do? Or travel to a specialist?
