michael
I'm not an expert but I've been looking into it myself recently - my summary so far is that spending money is the only way to get decent results but I've had some semi-decent images with a Logitech Quickcam 4000 and some software called CAM Wizard, it does motion detection and captures images when something happens... or when a car headlight reflects off yours... or it rains... but more is better than nothing right? Lots of stuff on eBay but quality seems pretty variable. What sort of budget do you have in mind and do you want to hook it up to a PC or have a standalone system? At the moment I'm angling towards a pair of wireless IP cameras that can email me when motion is detected and FTP a video up to my webspace, that way if someone breaks in and steals the computers / cameras I should still get pics. This is the one I like at the moment: http://www.dlink.com.sg/products/dlhome.asp?sec=0&pid=488 It supports RTSP and 3GPP so you can watch it on a compatible mobile phone if you want, works well on my N95 over 3G. Considerations are the cameras ability to film in low light, lots have IR and advertise that they can see in 0 lux, the D-Link manages down to 0.5 lux without the lights so I can position it in the house and film through the window. It's a huge area though, Emin on here does systems I believe but he's yet to reply to one of these threads offering us amazing systems for pennies Here's one I posted earlier with some useful input: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=130648

michael
Seems like the easiest route, I can't run wires around the place sadly so wireless seems like the way ahead, limits the options a bit though. Keep the thread updated with your findings
