Split rims. DIY refurb?

Has anyone here done any refurb work on their own split rims?

I've attached a picture of mine. I'm not sure if they are 2 or 3 piece. I was hoping to be able to undo the bolts and remove the 5 spoke centre, take the old paint off and respray those bits. They are the tattiest bits of the wheels, and really let them down. The polished rims aren't too bad, some light curb damage, but nothing I cant live with.

I know some people will say, "Take them to a specialist", but to be honest I can't do without the car for more than a weekend, and I don't have a spare set of wheels either.

Anyone got any advice?

Many thanks. :D

If u have the patience, u can give it a go urself. Its not that difficult. Just got to undo all the bolts and split the silicon.

Clean off all the dirt and silicon with a blade, degrease it all before u put them back together with silicon or u might end up more stressed trying to find the air leak ;)

Its easy mate. If it just the centre you want to remove then there is no need to split the 2 sides/shells. Just undo the bolts and remove the centre section, the 2 shells will be held together by the silicon seal. Obviously let all the air out first!!! Then just put back together the same way you took them apart. Ideally you want to torque the bolts to 44 NM torque.

Fantastic. All I want to do is to remove the centres.

Didn't think of letting the tyre down first

Makes sense though I guess.

If any of the 120 bolts get stripped/damaged, can I use Stainless bolts of equivalent size, or is there something special about them and I should get some proper spares before I start?
