Turbo 2 boost problems

Hi all,

Seems like there are a few people at the mo' with boost issues on turbo no2.

My symptoms seems to be totally different though.

Its been with the car since i bought it over a year ago. It's a very occassional stutter of power/boost at around 3800-4000rpm.

Turbo1 pulls fine, i get the slight dip in power as turbo2 is about to come into play and then it stutters.Basically a struggle and slight delay in number 2 turbo providing its full boost of 1.2bar. This stutter only last for second or two then clears and pulls normally up the rev range.

The longer it stutters, the more sudden and powerfull the surge in boost is from number turbo2. It almost feels like turbo2 is fighting against a restriction or back flow and fighting to provide its boost to the system.

Recently on one or two occasions turbo2 has failed to provide any boost at all to the system and my car will rev from 4000rpm up with the 0.7-0.8 bar from turbo1 alone.

On another occasion this stutter continued from 4000rpm up the rev range without clearing as it normally does. It almost felt like someone was switching turbo2's boost supply on and off very rapidly.

The VSV have been checked and so have the hoses. suggestions are its an actuator but can anyone else help??

Ben.

My vsv's havent been checked - how do you do this?

My plugs have been on for about 12k but are Iridiums which i had checked last time it had a service(about 2k ago)

Nothing else changed been happening for last 1k miles but getting worse.

Would just like advice of best things to check first etc.

Thanks

Mark

PS - sorry for the highjack tubby;)

I had this and it was caused by the electrical connector not connecting properly onto the EGCV vsv because the securing clip was broken. I found this out one day after the connector fell off and tubby 2 didn't come on at all.

The vsv's can be checked by connecting 12volts onto them while blowing through the ports, the flow should be switched off and on giving a tight seal while off. There are recommended resistance measurements at given temps. Sorry dont know the details though.

my vsv's were checked by mark at pheonix, he also checked my plugs, coil pack connectors etc. The plugs have been on for about 10,000m and are irridium.

gonna give the car to mark for a couple of days to see if he can get to the bottom of the stutter.

was interested to see if anyone had experieced the same symptoms so i could give mark a head start on diagnosing the problems.
