Mike B
Pulled my collarbone off my shoulder blade on sunday, specifically a 3rd degree ac joint seperation, so the thing stock out of the top of my shoulder like a gearstick. I'm at the specialists on manday, but, as you do, I've been searching the internet for prognosis/treatment and it seems a lot of people do not get themm surgically reconnected anyone out there done anything similar and if so any problems with continuing with heavy sport? Cass
Not quite the same. I ruptured the protective fatty stuff in my shoulder ball joint in Northern Ireland 1999 and went for an MRI scan because it had calsified and turned to hard bone. I got an Op and had the bone space chisled out so i could move it again. Now i have atharitis and tendon damage in my arm and back. Light sport is ok but rugby for eg is out.Sometimes even fishing is painfull. Cass.
jimwire
I have done mine pretty bad a couple of years ago. I opted for no sugury because I still skateboard and snowboard and did not fancy a screw in the bone i fall on. It has not stopped me doing anything and never gives me pain. It just looks a bit wrong. My bone sticks out and my shoulder looks like it has dropped. See what the specialist says. They seemed to not have a set way of treating this injury so I just opted for the no operation route.
Mike B
Thanks for posting! you really have no probs having left it..?? can you feel it moving around? do you have the same strength as before? is it weak at some angles or do you really not notice it?? I broke thia colar bone before; hence why it did not break this time; it's 2x as thick as it was last time. I have to make a choice on monday.... jevansio
My shoulder used to flop out of it's socket all the time (was triggered every time I had an epeliptic fit). Had an operation to tighten it up, play squash all the time now.
GazB
Keep you fingers crossed that you haven't damaged the ligaments. I got spear tacked 6 years ago playing rugby. Shoulder displaced and ligament damage haven't played since. Can't lift any weight above shoulder height, i was a pro (Jonny Wilkinson) could have had op and it may have mended but couldn't afford private op so i decided to stop playing and get a new hobby. Lots of rugby lads have broke collar bones and when mended carried on playing no problem. A good sign if they are damaged is it hurt like a bastard for about 6 weeks until physio started to work. Off work 15 weeks though with constant 3 times a week physio. Hope your ligaments are ok. You did ask the question
Mike B
LOL... all ligaments are snapped for sure!! I can move the bone around freely and it doesn't really hurt... the other shoulder really hurts!! but the one that is snapped does not. I snapped my acl and that was similar initial pain, then no pain... you are right strained ligaments hurt for a long time... mine does not! If you can't lift a weight above shoulder height then it sounds like surgery to me.... I need the arm!! I do have private insurance though. Dislocated my shoulder very badly racing motocross, took 3 ops to put it back in. I have seen specialists and have nerve damage. No nerves=no muscle triggers=no muscle I'm in same boat a GazB cant lift any more the 10kg on that side...
Mike B
I have seen specialists and have nerve damage. No nerves=no muscle triggers=no muscle I'm That's a worry I have on the other shoulder..(same accident) I have a loss of feeling all the way down the inside of the arm... looking at the arm tensed, all the muscles I can see seem to tense, even though there is only 50% strength there at the moment. The bad arm seems to have no nerve damage other than the fact that collarbone is hanging off... Specialist on monday.. In retrospect I'm lucky I didn't break my neck.. A bit of a wake up call tbh. I had a lack of feeling on the outside of my arm for years. Could not feel when touched by hand could feel needles though. If you can tense the muscles thats a good sign. jimwire
mine are deffo snapped as well. Gave me stick for a few months but no pain any more. I have built up my strength to nearly the same as before the accident. I have no problems lifting weight. As I said before, the only problem I have is how it looks. I did my other one a few years before but it was not as bad. That shoulder hurts a bit some times but I am really suprised how this one does not give me any problems. It depressed me for a while because I thought I would never ride a snowboard or skateboard again. I built myself back up and now have no problem. I would see what the specialist says. But in my case no surgery was the best option.
