cheekymonkey
Hi All My EVO's engine has blown up - apparently the balancer shaft let go and it pee'd all it's oil out of the dipstick and shagged the pistons... (compression all over the place) As this is a shared car with my brother we are on a budget and are thinking of doing an engine swap ourselves, maybe sticking an Evo 5 lump in there. My brother and I are by no means experts, but we are fairly competent home mechanics, have done turbo replacements and timing belts etc in the past. Do you think this is a feasible job for us? We can get hold of an engine hoist, and I feel quite happy about the timing end of the engine and the ancilliaries, the only thing that scares me is how all the linking to the clutch/gearbox works... any majorly special tools needed? Cheers! James
Daston
I think its all nuts at the back not sure though as the evo's engine is side mounted and apparently fitting a clutch is a royal pain in the bum and needs lift/pit
Paul Whiffin
There an arsehole of a job, compared to Supra's/Skylines/RX7's anyway, we hate doing them!

Gazboy
Which Evo is it when they swaped the engine and gearbox for better weight distribution- five or six?
cheekymonkey
Which Evo is it when they swaped the engine and gearbox for better weight distribution- five or six? Apparently the 5 engine drops straight into a 4, so I would guess they changed it all in the 6...
