OK now please educate me folks. Some people say it is a waste of time/money. Some people don't.

Question 1. What are the performance gains of fitting an after market air sucker (ie HKS powerflow or Blitz SUS). In lamens terms please.

Is £200 a good spend or is it just a gimic that makes bugger all difference?

I heard that filtration is poor on non standard systems so why should I get one boys and girls?

I cant speak from experience regarding the Supra.

But on past turbo'd cars I've always used the stock airobox with an aftermarket filter (K&N etc..) as I found I lost too much bottom end and midrange. The power came in with far to much wack and made the cars a pain to drive.

All I will be doing with the the Supra is replacing the element in the standard box with an uprated one.

As far as I'm concearned the turbo's sucks in all the air they need without having to stick on a big cone fiter.

Aftermarket air filters are fine and I'm sure K&N do some good units for 1/4 of the price of the Apexi/HKS types.

They all suffer from heat soak from the engine so you should mount the air filter shielded from the heat of the engine if possible or create a shield arround it.

The aftermarket filters do SOUND good and that's one reason why I think I'd go for it. They also look good.

But be careful if you expect to get 5BHP or something from it.

Most aftermarket Air filters generally don't help much.

So is a K&N element droppped in the existing closed box a good buy or just like taking out £60 from the cash point and feeding it to the swans?

Will it enhance anything for me at all (apart from the noise;) )

Cheers :)

COME ON ENGLAND!

After market K&N drop in filters won't change the noise.

K&N pod filters like mine, do change the sound.

But Pete has outlined the negative aspects.

You can seal the pod filters in a box but that is either a custom job or a expensive purchase of a piece of aluminium.
