Is it true?

There's a bloke at work who I'd say is pretty good at martial arts, and he told me that it's almost impossible to ever become any more flexible than you have been in the past.

So I'm 25 now, and he reckons cause I've stopped growing, it'll be far too hard for me to become any more flexible than I was when I was 16 (I was pretty flexible, did Kung Fu for over a year).

His principle: If you become very flexible when you're young and then lose it as you get older, you can with a bit of effort get back to that level.

If you don't do anything when young, and then try to become flexible when older it's pretty much a dead end and you've got no chance!

I'm not sure, my brother's pretty flexible but that is after 3 years in Korea doing TKD for 3 hours a day!! He was late 20s when he went and as far as I know wasn't very flexible at a young age.

What do you think? All I want is to be able to kick directly above my head (oh and to be able to do a 720 hook kick, but that's a different matter).

You do become less flexable to an extent as you get older, in Judo when applying arm locks you will find that the younger players arms will move a lot further before reaching breaking point than an say a player in their 20's (even if they have been doing it from the age of 8)
