tbourner
There's a bloke at work who I'd say is pretty good at martial arts, and he told me that it's almost impossible to ever become any more flexible than you have been in the past. So I'm 25 now, and he reckons cause I've stopped growing, it'll be far too hard for me to become any more flexible than I was when I was 16 (I was pretty flexible, did Kung Fu for over a year). His principle: If you become very flexible when you're young and then lose it as you get older, you can with a bit of effort get back to that level. If you don't do anything when young, and then try to become flexible when older it's pretty much a dead end and you've got no chance! I'm not sure, my brother's pretty flexible but that is after 3 years in Korea doing TKD for 3 hours a day!! He was late 20s when he went and as far as I know wasn't very flexible at a young age. What do you think? All I want is to be able to kick directly above my head (oh and to be able to do a 720 hook kick, but that's a different matter). Golddigga
I personally think this is untrue mate. If you train and slowly use exercises to lengthen muscles and therefore flexibility I don't see why you can't make yourself more flexible.
AndrewOW
All I can say is, the younger you can start the better. Your muscles etc will grow with the flexibility as you grow. Good luck with that!
Daston
You do become less flexable to an extent as you get older, in Judo when applying arm locks you will find that the younger players arms will move a lot further before reaching breaking point than an say a player in their 20's (even if they have been doing it from the age of 8)
AlanM
Easier when you arer youger but you can develop flexibility at any age - have a mate who can do amazing things, some of which he has to dislocate joints for ,, lol
qaisar
its bollocks mate It certainly is easier to increase flexability at a younger age, due to having more elasticity, but with correct training and enough time you can increase your flexability. Look up Thomas Kurtz or go to http://www.stadion.com. Check out the potential flexability tests that he shows
qaisar
oh and forgot to add if you just want to be able to kick above head height, you need to concentrate on dynamic stretches
