hp006
Help needed. My friend and i are doing a na to tt converion. The tt engine has gone straight in an everything fits fine. The garage who i brought the engine of said that the ABS and traction control unit does not need to be plugged in any where. Is this true, the engine currently will not start and i think it is this part of the wiring loom that is the problem. Any suggestions. Any way of by passing the ABS and traction control unit to make the engine go?
Soonto_HAS_soop
Shouldn't be a problem without the EBS or Trac connected. Do you have an Auto or Manual? As the Trac does have some links with the Auto box, but has been known to be removed. Are you getting a spark? Have you upgraded the fuel pump and ECU? What parts have you actually changed over already?

hp006
The car now works. I spoke with someone at Turbofit very helpful. I joined one to many wires, so i know am the owner of a TT. Think i need to do something with the gearbox though.
PAG
well done mate im going to go down this route with my n/a was it an easy enough swap?
hp006
Yes it was, slight issue with the wiring to start with but spoke with turbo fit and they sorted it out over the phone. I am waiting to see if i have to do any work on the gearbox. There is apparently a 50% chance that i will but i will wait and see. I am just waiting for the top radiator hose to arrive then i will test the car out. The car has had the tt autobox put in which runs electronically where as the na runs via a cable. Hence there may be a chance that the car will get stuck in third and stall, but hoopefully will drive it soon and then i can let you know.
PAG
Cheers mate that would be good its a five spd manual that i have would it have to be a tt engine from a manual that i used would like to keep the five speed box if poss?
hp006
All the engines are the same, it is soley down to the ecu that you get with the engine. The na gearbox will go straight to the engine if its a manual but obviously you have to watch the power outout. You wont be able to tune the tt that much as the na wont take as higher power as the tt gearbox.
PAG
Cheers matey have you got a rough idea on what the box could handle obviously an uprated clutch would need to be in place also.
hp006
I would imagine the gearbox would take the tt normal bhp depending on the condition of your gearbox. I would'nt try and put more than stock power through the na manual though. BUt i am no expert, its only what research i have done.

dini_the_owl
if the 5 spd tranny has been looked after you shouldnt have any issues.
