juanchan
They always need the chassis and vin number. Look at it from his POV, if he orders the wrong part, you turn up, get pissed off, call the manager, he gets a carpeting and he's lumbered with an expensive part they can never sell. It's not difficult to keep the relevant info in your wallet or phone for just those occasions. My local Toyota parts man is just verrryyyy sllllooooowwwww. It takes him 5 minutes just to come out. I swear the parts dept is 8 stories down in a bunker. When I ordered my front disks and pads through Steve Manley, they said that if I hadn't collected within 7 days, they have a policy to return the goods, so they aren't clogging up the stock room at the dealer. My local Toyota dealer wanted my VIN the first time I went there and I got the distinct impression that if I owned an import they wouldn't have sold me any parts. That said, on their computer screen, after putting in my VIN, he still had to select the option that indicated "UK auto". There were plenty of options for the import models, so I'm not sure why dealers refuse to sell parts for them!

The only difference ive noticed in my local dealer when the word "import" is mentioned is the hourly labour rate magically bounces up £10 per hour, mechanics must have trouble talking to the car as its speaks jap, as thats about the only difference i can think off
